Netflix renews stalker drama You for season 4
By Lacy Baugher
As viewers finally get to dig into the third season of Netflix’s popular – and wildly addictive – drama You, the streaming giant announced that this outing won’t be the last we see of Joe Goldberg. Ahead of the season 3 premiere, Netflix confirmed that the show would officially return for a fourth season.
The series is based on Carolyn Kepnes’ best-selling novel of the same name and stars Gossip Girl alum, Penn Badgley, as Joe Goldberg. Ostensibly a nice guy who will do anything for love, the show reveals that sometimes “anything” can go much too far, as Joe stalks, kidnaps, and murders his way through various major metropolitan areas in an attempt to find – and keep – the girl of his dreams.
You season 3 begins with Joe and his new wife/former obsession Love heading to suburbia to raise their newborn child. But given that Love is as twisted as her husband – with a body count to match – he’ll have to tread carefully in this new world of tech bros and mommy vloggers.
The official Season 4 announcement video is fairly basic – after all, it can’t exactly give away the secrets of season 3 in order to let us know what’s next – but still manages to feel creepy af. (Joe is…whew. Something else.)
“Reading Caroline’s novel, Greg (Berlanti) and I were instantly obsessed with Joe Goldberg and his twisted world view,” creator Sera Gamble said in a statement. “And it’s been thrilling to watch Penn bring Joe to creepy yet compelling life. We’re deeply grateful that Netflix has shown You such monumental support, and that people around the world have enjoyed watching Joe really get it all very wrong over the past three seasons. The whole You team is excited to explore new, dark facets of love in season 4.”
Given that season 3 just dropped on Netflix, there’s no word yet on when the next installment might arrive – or even go into production. But, as you settle in for the wild twists and turns of this latest installment, it’s nice to know that this won’t be the end of the story. (Whether that’s a good thing or not, well….we’ll just have to wait and see.)
Are you looking forward to more You? Why or why not?
