Disney+ announces The Proud Family revival release date
In an era where revivals are hitting the silver screen more than ever, it seems like every hit show from the past is coming back to television. The next one up is Disney’s The Proud Family. The Proud Family ran on Disney Channel from late 2001 to 2005 among shows like Kim Possible and Lizzie McGuire. Disney has announced that the new series will stream on Disney+ with the name The Proud Family: LouderAndProuder. Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming series.
What is to come for The Proud Family: LouderAndProuder?
Although we will have to wait until 2022 for the official debut of the new series, the announcement comes on the twenty year anniversary of the hit Disney Channel show. There had been talks about the initial reboot since 2019, but the coronavirus pandemic delayed the series.
Since it is the 20th anniversary of the show however, it is no surprise that there are a wide array of stars that have signed on to lend their voice to the show for guest appearances. As reported by Deadline, the list includes: Lizzo, Lil Nas X, Chance the Rapper, Normani, Leslie Odom Jr., Tiffany Haddish, Lena Waithe, Anthony Anderson, Gabrielle Union, Debbie Allen, James Pickens Jr., Courtney B. Vance, Jane Lynch, Marsai Martin, Jaden Smith, Glynn Turman, Lamorne Morris, Brenda Song, Tina Knowles, Eva Longoria, Holly Robinson Peete, Al Roker, Bretman Rock, Gabby Douglas, Laurie Hernandez and Dominique Dawes, among others.
The Proud Family’s original run followed the life of teenager Penny Proud and gave a look into her extended family that includes her character of pets, friends, siblings, and parents. Fans will be happy to know the reboot will have the same concept with production of the show being led by Bruce W. Smith and Ralph Farquhar, who both spearheaded the first run of the series.
