Showrunners Jeffery Lieber, Nicki Renna, and Joey Falco have revealed the identity of the person who will complete the Power of Three in season 4: Australian actress Lucy Barrett. This news comes just two months after the season 3 finale, which saw the death of Macy Vaughn, the oldest Charmed sister.

During season 2, the Guardian warned the Vera-Vaughn sisters that all the previous Charmed Ones ended up destroying the sisterhood, and Mel, Maggie, and Macy all vowed to never let that happen. Now, after Macy’s sacrifice to save the world from the Whispering Evil, the Charmed Ones find themselves down a sister and without the Power of Three, just as the Guardian warned.

As hungry as fans are for information on the new sister, the showrunners are being extremely tight-lipped about her character, even down to choosing not to reveal her name. More importantly, they’re keeping her connection to Maggie and Mel a secret as well, leaving fans to continue to speculate about how she fits into the series. “Her name, backstory, powers, and connection to Mel and Maggie are being kept under wraps, because… well… it’s more fun that way,” the showrunners expressed in a statement released via Deadline.

Despite not knowing her name, the showrunners did reveal a few details about this new Charmed One: “…She’s an artist, with a wild, unpredictable love for life and a one-of-a-kind view of the world that serves her well in her art, which is her life’s passion.” Aside from her artistic drive, she’s also “fun, irreverent, impulsive, strong-willed, and will bring a brand-new energy to the Power of Three.”

They also stated in an earlier interview with TVLine that while this new sister will be fun and unpredictable, she’s also flawed. They revealed that they’re interested in exploring her insecurities and fears, and how those emotions impact her relationships with her sisters, Harry, and Jordan.

Aside from this exciting casting news, Deadline also revealed a few details about what fans can expect from the fourth season of The CW’s reboot. The sisters will be facing a force that “instills fear in every corner of the magical world.” But despite this looming threat, the most challenging foe they face this season might just be their own grief, as it “threatens to undo the Power of Three forever.”

While still suffering through losing Macy, Mel and Maggie must work with their new sister to take on this unknown enemy lurking in the shadows to protect all magical creatures, just as they’ve always done. Though, the question remains: Will the Charmed Ones be able to work together efficiently with the new addition, or will their inexperience be their downfall?

I, for one, am very excited about this new addition to the show, and can’t wait to see what Barrett adds to this already delightful cast. One worry I had, upon finding out they’d be adding a new sister, was that they were going to try to replace Macy, but their other long lost sister couldn’t sound more different from her.

As the show moves into this new chapter, I’m excited to celebrate the new addition to the Power of Three while also keeping Macy’s memory and influence baked into the series, which is exactly what it sounds like the showrunners are committed to doing.

Though this news is extremely exciting, there’s still so many questions left unanswered: How is this new sister related to Mel and Maggie? Is she Marisol’s daughter or is she potentially Ray Vera’s daughter? Will she also have an ‘M’ name? What is her power? Where has she been all these years? How many other relatives do Maggie and Mel have out there that they don’t even know?

With all these questions and not many answers to speak of, we’ll all just have to tune in to Charmed when it premieres on The CW early next year.
