We finally have our first trailer for the first part of American Horror Story: Double Feature, and it plays on the idea of the struggling writer. But of course, there is also the added horror of blood, body parts, and maybe even dental work (or maybe that’s just my horror story).

In our first real look at American Horror Story Season 10, we finally have an idea of what the season’s will look like and it doesn’t seem even remotely close to aliens versus sirens. Instead, we find ourselves in a small seaside town. (And as someone who grew up in Massachusetts and would recognize that welcome sign anywhere, that small seaside town is Provincetown, Massachusetts, which actually makes perfect sense.)

A struggling writer is apparently moving his pregnant wife and their daughter to this small town for what seems to be a fresh start. Perhaps the hope is that this move will be good for his writing and get him over the hurdle of writers block (a horror writers know all too well). But there could be other reasons for this move, we just don’t know yet.

Here, our writer meets other creatives. And they let him in on a little secret, now that he is here, the writers block will be gone. No explanation of why or how.

Writers block along with blood and body parts set the stage for the American Horror Story: Double Feature premiere

As we dive deeper into this trailer, we see the writers’ block seems to have all but disappeared, but with it comes flashes that prove that maybe it would have been better if things had stayed as they are. From body parts on the beach, a man breaking through the window of what appears to be their home, and even just this general sense of fear and danger that seems to lurk throughout the trailer, American Horror Story looks to be getting back to what they have done best – telling us a story that is well crafted, while also being chilling.

Maybe it is just me, but this first look at American Horror Story: Double Feature reminded me of Murder House. It felt fresh but classic. And of course, it helped that the family of three was moving into a new home (hello MURDER HOUSE vibes!!!).
