When it comes to Murphy Mason on the In the Dark, there are a few things we can count on. She is going to get in trouble, she is going to think more of herself than anyone else, she doesn’t really think about her actions, and she is going to make enemies.

And after her escape from the police department in handcuffs, not only does Gene end up fired but in his effort to get the truth out there, he takes the recording of Murphy revealing what really happened in the death of her friend. This means that people now know that the chief of police is corrupt.

I don’t know if Gene will consider Murphy an enemy, but I highly doubt the chief is going to allow her to wander off. And that doesn’t even take into account the fact that there is still a drug lord coming after them. In the Dark really isn’t letting up on the problems piling onto Murphy and her friends, and this episode just seemed to compound the issues.

In the Dark sees Murphy causing even more drama and trouble for more than just herself

The thing with Murphy is that even when you think she may have good intentions, that is rarely the case. Too many times, it seems as if she is only thinking of herself, although she does think of Jess as well. But even when she is thinking of Jess, it doesn’t feel like she is thinking beyond the moment.

And it is her determination to get to Jess and learn what happened to her friend that meant she literally caused a fight between Gene and Josh so she could use Gene’s guide stick to get her out of the interrogation room. The fact that her actions also led to Gene getting fired doesn’t exactly endear her to anyone.

In the Dark is setting up something dark and dangerous and it looks like we are going to have at least one casualty by the end of Season 3. But it is also setting up a future where Murphy will eventually have to pay for everything that she got her friends involved in, even if she didn’t do something directly.
