Following the success of the Netflix series, The Queen’s Gambit, interest in the game of chess grew exponentially. But this is a game that has been around for a long time and has had many followers and fans.

From the iconic life-size chess game in Harry Potter to the classic Star Trek Tridimensional board, this is a game that has been in our pop culture lexicon for what seems like forever. And while July 20 is officially International Chess Day, we can all enjoy the game whenever we want.

But if you have ever wanted a unique board that is unlike what we saw in The Queen’s Gambit, have no fear, because we have some suggestions. And not only that, but these boards will make amazing gift ideas as well.

Just think, you could have your Christmas shopping out of the way just by getting the perfect chessboard. And the fact that it is a two-person game also means getting quality time with a friend or other loved one!

5 Chess sets that will inspire you to learn how to play

Star Trek Tridimensional Chess Set – Thanks to the Noble Collection, we can channel our inner nerd and play the game of the Enterprise. And let me tell you, I have never geeked out more than I did when I set up my own Tridimensional Chess Set.

The board itself is stunning, the pieces are quality, and basically, you will feel like you are about to sit down for a game against Spock himself. Honestly, this is my favorite chessboard that isn’t quite chess ever, and it made me want to play all the games whenever possible.

Jurassic Park Chess Set – If you are a longtime fan of Jurassic Park and the Jurassic World movies, then you need this board in your life. That’s because while this is a classic game of chess, the pieces are anything but classic.

We are talking about dinosaur figures in the place of the Kings, Queens, Rooks, and Knights. And even if you hated the movies (I don’t know who that might be, but still), but love dinosaurs, this is the ultimate board for you.

The Final Challenge Chess Set – Ever wanted to play Harry Potter chess? Then this is your chance. This is the board for you and with the game pieces, you know from the movie. It is magical, and stunning in its construction and quality.

I will say, this is a more expensive option at $395, but for the Harry Potter fanatic, this is probably a must. And if it inspires you to learn chess, how can that be a bad thing?

Star Wars Pewter Chess SetStar Wars fans, this one is for you, but it comes with a hefty price tag. This chess set, which is sold by the Disney Shop comes in at a staggering $1800.

However, to go along with that price tag is a stunning work of art. Iconic characters go head-to-head in battle, just like we expect from the Force. It is the movie turned chess and it is amazing. This is a gift that is impossible to walk away from.

White Globe with Chess Holder – It’s a globe that hides a chessboard. It is an amazing way to always have your game handy and learn geography. The board sits in the globe, with the pieces hidden away underneath.

You can remove the board to play on a regular table or you could even play with the board sitting on the globe. It is fascinating and beautiful and a way to get two items in one, which is always a win for us.
