In The Judgement of the Perilous Captive, Nancy Drew took on Everett Hudson and in many ways she both lost and won. But this episode was all about the fathers in many way. From Drew Carson and Ryan Hudson, to even Everett himself, this was an episode that really felt like it gave all of these fathers a chance in the spotlight in very unique ways.

Following the murder of Celia Hudson, Nancy Drew did what she does best, she delved deep into the mystery of who killed her grandmother. And while it ended up not being Everett Hudson behind Celia’s murder, that didn’t mean the mystery went unsolved.

But it wasn’t Nancy finally dealing with Everett or even the solving of Celia’s murder that stood out in this episode. It was the fact that we were able to see three fathers in different spotlights.

It was a tale of three fathers in the latest Nancy Drew episode

First we have to talk about Everett Hudson. He has proven time and again that he is not a good person. So it is no surprise that he is also not a good father. In fact, one would think that lying to your son about their uncle’s death would be the least of his sins in that regard. However, at the same time this all set up a chance for Ryan and Nancy to connect.

When it comes to Ryan Hudson and Nancy Drew, their relationship has been strained and yet they have slowly found a way to connect. And recently it seems like they have finally come together as long-lost father and daughter. That was never so clear as when Ryan comforted Nancy after she blamed herself for Celia’s death. It was Ryan who made it clear that Nancy wasn’t to blame for Celia’s decisions and the consequences of those decisions.

And seeing Nancy try to comfort Ryan in some small way as she extended a true olive brand his way was something we have been waiting to see. After all, he is trying to be a better man and he wants a chance to be a father, even in some small way.

Finally, we have Carson Drew. This is a man who has devoted his life to Nancy Drew. He raised her as his own and he protected her as best he could.

But it was in “The Judgement of the Perilous Captive” that we really saw how good of a father he is because he didn’t care that he was trying to save Nancy from something supernatural. He just wanted to figure out what was wrong and how he could fix it.

And by the end of the episode, it is clear that when it comes to his daughter, he will do anything and believe anything in an effort to save her.

In this episode, it was all about the fathers and only two of the three prove that they are truly good men.
