Game of Thrones alum Emilia Clarke is joining Marvel’s Secret Invasion series

Marvel has plenty of new television series lined up for the next handful of years, including one that will dive deeper into what Nick Fury has been up to during the jump from Phase 3 to Phase 4. And Secret Invasion isn’t just depending on Samuel L. Jackson to draw in viewers. It’s bringing other major stars like The Crown‘s Olivia Colman and, most recently, Game of Thrones alum Emilia Clarke, along for the ride.

Variety reported yesterday that Clarke is in the late stages of negotiating a role in the series, though additional details about the potential casting are still under wraps.

Following her portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen on HBO’s hit fantasy series and her stint as Qi’ra in Solo: A Star Wars Story, it seems the actress is determined to hit every major franchise as she grows in her career.

If she does sign on for Secret Invasion, she’ll be joining a show centered on Nick Fury and Talos, one of the Skrulls fans met back in Captain Marvel. The series is likely to take a deeper look at the shape-shifting aliens and establish a more concrete role for them in the MCU. That’s something both Spider-Man: Far From Home and the final episode of WandaVision have already alluded to.

How Clarke will factor into this upcoming story is another question.

Who will Emilia Clarke play in Secret Invasion?

There’s currently no word on who Clarke will play in Secret Invasion. Marvel is well known for keeping details tightly under wraps, particularly during the early stages of production.

Of course, that hasn’t stopped dedicated fans from speculating on the matter. And while there are a number of opinions, many fans seem convinced she’ll play Jessica Drew — better known as Spider-Woman — a character featured prominently in the Secret Invasion comic series.

Of course, there’s always a possibility she’ll join the ranks of SHIELD or become one of the Skrulls. Nothing’s off the table, but it would be cool to finally see Jessica Drew join the MCU. We’ll be manifesting that energy until more details arrive.
