When it comes to the parents on Riverdale, they have long been problematic. With the exception of Fred Andrews, some of these parents have been a mess. Whether we are talking about Hiram and his need to destroy or control his daughter, F.P.’s inability to actually parent Jughead, or Alice, who joined a cult instead of parenting her teenage daughter, most of the adults on this CW series have clearly had their fair share of issues.

But while our Riverdale crew has grown up and moved on from being under their parents’ roof (for the most part), that doesn’t mean they don’t need their parents. In fact, one could say that, as adults, we almost need our parents more.

But now that Archie and his friends are adults and doing whatever it is that they do, it looks like it is up to Sheriff Keller to be the parent that Riverdale has been missing since Fred Andrews died. Not only has he stood by Archie when he has needed it, but he has stepped up for his son as well.

And lately, it is clear that Kevin needs his father. He needs someone to be there for him and remind him that he deserves to be happy.

Sheriff Keller is the Riverdale parent we have been waiting for

Now that Kevin has sat down to really talk to his father about what he is dealing with, it is clear that the lack of real parenting skills in Riverdale has truly taken a toll on all of our characters. And we are not surprised in the least.

Kevin is clearly struggling with not only himself, but also his life and the idea of being happy. And while I hate every bit of this storyline because I want Kevin to be happy and I want to see him and Fangs as a family, it is giving us what Riverdale has long been missing: a chance to see a parent at work.

Sheriff Keller might not be at the forefront of the storylines we currently have gracing our screens, but he is still there lending a hand when people need him. And seeing him show up for Kevin is everything we could have hoped for and more.
