Can we just talk about all of Archie’s current projects on Riverdale?

When Riverdale did the seven-year time jump, we knew things were going to change for Archie and his friends. But did anyone have Archie being in the military, a teacher and a firefighter on their Bingo card? I know I didn’t. (Also, let’s not forget his plan for a football team.)

I enjoy Riverdale because it is soapy drama that I don’t take seriously. Thanks to the comics, I already knew there was plenty of ridiculousness to be expected, but exactly how many jobs and projects can one person handle before they break?

And at the same time, exactly how good is he going to be at all of these jobs when he is so spread thin? We barely see him in teacher mode, unless he is trying to convince his students to do something else (football, firefighting, etc.). And he hasn’t gotten permission for any of these projects from parents or even the school.

Then there is his latest endeavor: firefighting.

Riverdale is giving Archie a lot of hats to wear, but why?

Now we have Archie adding firefighter to his resume. While we can admit that Riverdale needs a fire department, Archie is not exactly trained for this job. So of course we watched him run into a burning building to save someone.

I appreciate the fact that he wants to save his hometown. I also understand that he is doing what he can not to feel cast adrift now that he is not overseas fighting in a war. But, exactly how many more projects and jobs can he take on before too much is too much? And why does it seem like only Archie is invested in saving Riverdale with Veronica’s help?

At this point, Betty’s storyline is less about Riverdale than it is her sister (we get that), and I’m not even sure what Jughead is doing beyond working at Pop’s. Veronica is clearly still going after her father at every turn and we actually have seen her in the classroom teaching, so that’s something. (Actually, I would say Veronica and Archie are the most invested in Riverdale’s success of the four friends.)

With everyone else barely trying, Archie seems to be taking on every role in town that he can. But how many more can he take on before there is no more Archie left to spread around?
