What a concept: Schitt’s Creek star Annie Murphy will be back on our screens soon enough, having joined the cast of the highly anticipated second season of Netflix’s Russian Doll.

This is the first real news we’ve had about season 2 thus far and will likely excite fans who’ve been waiting for ages for any indication about the series return.

Created by Amy Poehler, Leslye Headland, and Natasha Lyonne, the series follows the story of Nadia (played by Lyonne), a woman who gets stuck in a time-loop where she’s forced to die and repeat her 36th birthday over and over, to the tune of Harry Nillson’s “Gotta Get Up” playing in the background. When she eventually meets Alan Zeveri (Charlie Barnett), who is also repeating the same day, they join forces to try and escape their fate.

Your mileage may vary on whether or not you think Russian Doll needed a second season – the first truly is pretty much perfect – but given how successful the first was, it’s not entirely surprising that Netflix greenlit another. (And I’m not going to pretend like I’m not super excited to watch it, either.)

Production recently kicked off on Russian Doll season 2 after a series of COVID-related delays, though no return date has yet been set for when it might arrive on Netflix. There’s also no word on who Murphy will play or what kind of role her character will have in the show, though personally, I’m hoping she’s another repeating-day type. (Fingers crossed.)

Murphy’s breakout performance as Alexis Rose on Schitt’s Creek won her an Emmy in 2020. Her next role is a 180-degree turn from that, playing a sitcom wife who turns deadly in the AMC dark comedy Kevin Can F** Himself, which is set to premiere in the summer of 2021.

Next. Schitt’s Creek’s Annie Murphy is a vengeful sitcom wife in AMC’s Kevin Can F**k Himself trailer. dark
