Riverdale knows how to deliver emotional moments. And the latest episode was no different as Archie spiraled in pain and anger, leading to a heart-wrenching moment in front of Fred Andrew’s grave.

There were some major moments in “Chapter Seventy-Eight:  The Preppy Murders”. Not only was there more murder and violence, but we also learned the truth about the mysterious Auteur that has been terrorizing Riverdale. We got to see Charles reveal his truth to Betty and Jughead (he is a serial killer and he and Chick are still a thing), the Blossom family is almost entirely dead, and Hiram Lodge is losing pretty much everything.

But none of that compares to the spiral that Archie went through. From actually getting violent and bashing the TV in front of his mother to punching his uncle in the face, Archie was in a very bad place in this episode. And considering everything he has lived through, it makes sense that he would finally snap in some small or big ways.

However, it was the moment when he broke down in front of his father’s grave when you really felt the impact of the things that Archie has been through.

Riverdale once more remembers the late Fred Andrews (Luke Perry)

Archie clearly believes that his father’s memory is being not just forgotten but tarnished by this town. And considering Fred was all about saving Riverdale and the people who lived there, it makes sense that he would feel this way.

The fact that the time for his father’s killer to be sentenced was upon him meant that it was bound to come to a head in his mind. Especially knowing that he was being asked to write a letter of forgiveness knowing that his father was killed in a hit-and-run accident.

When Riverdale brings the emotional hammer down, they do it right. And it was hard not to feel for Archie as it looked like he was not just struggling with his father being gone, but his life-changing once again as high school comes to an end and his friends move on with their lives.

Graduating high school is a major milestone in so many of our lives and to also be dealing with finally getting justice for his father’s death felt like the moment when Archie went from being that “cute football player” to a grown man with decisions to be made as his life moves on.

The fact that Riverdale gave us this moment also acted as a way to let us know that Fred Andrews and in turn Luke Perry will never be forgotten.
