French heist drama Lupin is an international hit for Netflix, outperforming shows like Bridgerton and The Queen’s Gambit in its first 28 days on the streamer.

Netflix just keeps churning out hits. Its latest is perhaps one of its most unexpected, a French heist drama called Lupin that’s racking up streams across the globe.

According to Netflix, 70 million households are projected to watch the five-part series through its first 28 days on the service. Those are bigger numbers than recent popular releases Bridgerton (63 million) and The Queen’s Gambit (62 million), both of which the streamer lauded as significant hits. (Or record-breakers, in The Queen’s Gambit’s case – it was specifically lauded as Netflix’s most-watched limited series to date.)

To put it in perspective: Those are inching close to The Witcher numbers, which ranks as Netflix’s most successful series to date since it started reporting streaming figures. (76 million in 28 days).

Lupin is the first French series to land in Netflix’s U.S. Top 10 list and has edged out La Casa de Papel (retitled Money Heist for American audiences) as the streamer’s biggest non-English language import.

The show is a certified international hit, claiming the top slot in France, Brazil, Vietnam, Argentina, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, The Netherlands, The Philippines, Sweden, and more.

Lupin stars Omar Sy as Assane Diop. As a teen, Diop’s life was upended when his father was accused of a crime he didn’t commit and died. Now, 25 years later, Assane is inspired by the famous thief and master of disguise  “Arsène Lupin, Gentleman Burglar,” to avenge his death.

It’s all very Ocean’s 11, with fun disguises, fake-outs, and the sort of twists that don’t really work if you think about them too hard, but which are a ton of fun to watch play out.

“70 millions, that’s insane!!” star Sy wrote in a celebratory tweet. “So proud that Lupin is the first French Netflix Original series to be so successful internationally! That wouldn’t have been possible without you. Thank you all.”

While only five episodes are currently available, Netflix has confirmed that Part 2 of the series will arrive later this year.
