Captain America star Chris Evans will voice Buzz Lightyear in new Pixar film
Disney’s Investor Day on Thursday brought lots of announcements about Disney content coming within the next few years, including a new Buzz Lightyear film.
One of the many projects announced at Disney Investor Day this year was a new Pixar animated film about Buzz Lightyear. Called Lightyear, the movie will explore the backstory of the character itself, rather than the toy seen in the four Toy Story films, who was voiced by Tim Allen.
Disney released a very short teaser trailer, but we’re still waiting on more details.
They also announced that Chris Evans will star as the voice of our favorite intergalactic ranger. Evans has been working with Disney for many years, portraying Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is also a big Disney fan, even having named his dog after a character from Disney’s Oliver & Company.
Evans expressed his joy on his social media at being part of the project. “I don’t even have the words,” he wrote while sharing the teaser trailer. He further clarified, “And just to be clear, this isn’t Buzz Lightyear the toy. This is the origin story of the human Buzz Lightyear that the toy is based on.”
People on the Internet immediately jumped on this statement and made it into a meme.
Evans expanded on his thoughts in an Instagram post. “Working with Pixar is a dream come true,” he said, going on to talk about how excited his team was to tell him about this pitch.
He assured Disney fans that they can trust Pixar with this character, saying, “Everyone can rest easy. And get very excited. Trust me when I say that they REALLY know what they’re doing over there.”
Angus MacLane, who has a long history with Pixar and co-directed Finding Dory, will direct the film. Lightyear is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 17, 2022.
