One of the most exciting announcements from Disney’s Investor Day was that Hayden Christensen is reprising his role as Darth Vader for Lucasfilm’s Obi-Wan series.

Disney’s Investor Day was filled to the brim with exciting announcements, particularly for Marvel and Star Wars fans. One of the most explosive bits of news, however, had to do with Lucasfilm’s upcoming Obi-Wan series: that Hayden Christensen, who played Anakin Skywalker in the franchise’s prequel trilogy of films, would be reprising his role as Darth Vader in the new show.

Rumors of the actor’s return to the franchise have been circulating for some time now, and there isn’t a better way he could have made a return. Christensen’s Anakin and McGregor’s Obi-Wan are an iconic duo and one of the highlights of the prequel movies. To see them together again — and in those roles no less — is going to be a satisfying experience for many.

Of course, it’s also likely to be painful given how the two left off in Revenge of the Sith.

It’ll be interesting to see how Obi-Wan Kenobi handles the continuation of their relationship now that Anakin has become Darth Vader. We know how it concludes in A New Hope, but the rest is a mystery — at least until the series arrives.

Cristensen is about excited as the rest of us when it comes to returning to the role. In a statement on StarWars.com, he said:

"“It was such an incredible journey playing Anakin Skywalker. Of course, Anakin and Obi-Wan weren’t on the greatest of terms when we last saw them… It will be interesting to see what an amazing director like Deborah Chow has in store for us all. I’m excited to work with Ewan again. It feels good to be back.”"

Production on the new series is expected to begin in March, so it may be a while before we actually get to see these two together again. For now, we’ll just be crossing our fingers for all the behind-the-scenes photos and videos.
