Did Netflix make a mistake with its latest cancellation and renewal?

Thanks to COVID-19, this year has been difficult for everyone — and that includes those in Hollywood. Blockbuster films like Black Widow, Wonder Woman: 1984, and The Batman have been rescheduled over and over again. Also feeling the effects are some of our favorite television shows. Budget cuts have been the number one reason so many have been canceled in recent months. And one streamer in particular has been a little too scissor happy if you’re asking us: Netflix.

Netflix has gone on a bloody rampage and canceled some of its most talked-about shows, including Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, GLOW, The Society, and I Am Not Okay With This… which we’re still not okay with getting canceled.

With all the cancellations, hearing about a renewal was great — until we found out it was a show that most felt was underwhelming. That’s right, Space Force got renewed for a second season.  And with good news comes more bad news: The Order has canceled.

Seriously, Netflix, out of all the shows you could have kept you chose Space Force and kicked The Order to the curb?

Why Space Force Should Have Been Booted

We’re just as confused as everyone else on why Space Force was renewed when better shows were kicked to the curb. Critics panned this out-of-this-world series, giving it a 38 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it did fare better with fans, raking in over 40 million views within 28 days after premiering.

As mentioned earlier, budget cuts seem to be the main culprit behind shows being canceled. Space Force being on the pricier side — especially with its lead actor and executive producer Steve Carrell being paid $1 million per episode — it seems canceling this series would’ve been a no-brainer. To combat production cost, it’s moving from Los Angeles to Vancouver for filming, which will begin sometime next year. But we can’t help but wonder whether Netflix should have scrapped this series instead.

The Order Deserved Better

Both seasons of The Order having a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes wasn’t enough for this horror series to be renewed. You can’t go wrong with werewolves and witches — or at least, that’s what we thought.

A perfect mix of drama, horror, and action, The Order was a hit with fans who couldn’t get enough of two secret societies clashing while still trying to make peace. We wanted to see if The Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose and The Knights of Saint Christopher would ever come together as one.  Now we won’t get the chance to.

The series creator spoke on what would’ve happened in season three in a Twitter post:

"“PS – Jack was totally going to raise Alyssa from the dead, but she was going to come back wrong. Like, Pet Sematary wrong. Probably possessed by Zecchia. And a whole bunch of other corpses were coming back with her.”"

Are you kidding?! That’s a storyline we would have loved to see!

The Order starred Jake Manley and Sarah Grey and originally premiered on Netflix on March 17, 2019.

Next. The one where the Friends reunion will (hopefully) start filming in March 2021. dark
