5 highlights from Lifetime’s Christmas movie schedule
The weather is getting colder, and with that comes Lifetime’s “It’s a Wonderful Lifetime” holiday film schedule. Here are some highlights to look out for.
It’s that time of the year when the leaves are falling off of the trees, pumpkin-spice season is in full effect, and the holidays are right around the corner.
With a unique 2020 and a holiday season that will be different from others, it’s nice to see that Lifetime will bring viewers its annual lineup of Christmas films to help them get into the holiday spirit with reminders of love, family tradition and values, feel-good emotions, self-positivity, and, of course, romance.
So what are some of the highlights to keep an eye out for this year?
Dear Christmas
For those of you longing for that ‘90s nostalgia, Dear Christmas is the movie for you. It features several alum from ‘90s television classics, with Jason Priestley from 90210 and Melissa Joan Hart from Sabrina the Teenage Witch (and currently Sabrina on Netflix). The movie follows Hart’s character, Natalie, who spills all of the gossip about Hollywood romances on her podcast.
Even though she’s able to give the world her advice on romance, however, Natalie has yet to experience her own. When she goes to promote her book, she returns home to her family for the holidays and unexpectedly receives that opportunity for romance with a local firefighter. It will be interesting to see how the sparks will fly (pun not intended).
Dear Christmas airs on Friday, November 27 at 8 p.m. ET.
Merry Liddle Christmas Wedding
For the first time, Lifetime is featuring a sequel to one of its Christmas films. Merry Liddle Christmas Wedding is the next part to 2019’s Merry Liddle Christmas, which follows Jacquie Liddle (Destiny’s Child’s Kelly Rowland) and Tyler (Thomas Cadrot) as they plan a beautiful and perfect location for their Christmas wedding.
And with a wedding planner who quits and an exuberant family that interferes with planning, the adventures that follow Jacquie and Tyler on this path to a perfect celebration of matrimony is sure to be an entertaining one.
Merry Liddle Christmas Wedding premieres on Saturday, November 28 at 8 p.m. ET.
Spotlight on Christmas
More than just a Christmas song, Spotlight on Christmas follows a tough scenario where Olivia O’Hara (Tori Anderson) is an actress who gets dumped just weeks before Christmas. In a world where a celebrity’s personal life is watched so closely, O’Hara leaves the spotlight and returns to her quiet hometown where she tries to avoid running into the press.
There, Olivia faces the family she left behind to pursue stardom, a reporter who is still able to track her and is extremely nosy, and a new guy named Casey Rawlins (Victor Zinck Jr.) who presents a new level of charm. The film will see Olivia focusing on the responsibilities of her own life and discovering exactly who she is in the process.
Spotlight on Christmas premieres on Friday, December 4 at 8 p.m. ET.
Inn Love by Christmas
In Inn Love by Christmas, Mandy Leeds (Joanna Walsh) is a young woman in Miami who is reaching corporate success in the hotel industry, which causes her to have little time making it back to her tiny hometown. While her Gram (Jayne Eastwood) is able to convince her to come home for the holidays, Mandy is further inspired to go back to her hometown by a charming and small inn that is up for sale — one that would make a perfect addition to the company.
However, conflict arises as Mandy’s former high school rival, Lucas (Jesse Hutch), also wants the inn. It will be compelling to see how this interaction will turn out and what events will unfold in the inn — and with Lucas and Mandy.
Inn Love by Christmas premiers Friday, December 11 at 8 p.m. ET.
A Sugar & Spice Holiday
History will be made when, for the first time, Lifetime features a movie centered on an Asian-American family, “featuring an Asian director, writer, casting director, and cast.” In A Sugar & Spice Holiday, Suzie (Jacky Lai) is an architect who returns home for the holidays with a family that runs the town’s Lobster Bar.
Overwhelmed with guilt after her legendary baker grandmother passes away, Suzie feels she must follow in her grandmother’s footsteps and also enter the town’s gingerbread house contest. She partners with her friend from high school, Billy, (Tony Giroux) who grew up to be charming himself, and must mix, as the title says, sugar and spice along with cultural traditions to not only win the competition but perhaps a little romance, too.
The film premieres on Sunday, December 13 at 8 p.m. ET.
