Water is not our friend in the Haunting of Bly Manor trailer

If there is one thing that stood out the most in the newest trailer for Haunting of Bly Manor, it would have to be the way water is portrayed. While there are certainly plenty of moments that were in their own way both chilling and riveting, it is the water that snagged my attention.

In the full-length trailer for Netflix’s latest addition to its Haunting series, we open up on a young girl overlooking a pond as music that is definitely ominous plays. And if that didn’t set the stage for a chilling first look at this season, how about the fact that we went from this moment to one where that same girl is sitting in front of a dollhouse (I feel like all dollhouses are creepy in their own way) as she looks back at a closed door that doesn’t seem very warm and inviting.

The Haunting of Bly Manor trailer sets the stage for horror and scares

Although there were a number of moments that stood out in this trailer, it is the water itself that seems to be a focal point. Not only do we have the sound of running water as a dark hand wraps around the waist of the mother (that’s my guess anyway) as the rest of the family sits behind her unaware, but at one point we also see her getting ready to basically submerge her face into a tub filled with water. I don’t know about you, but none of this looks like a good thing.

There are many people with a fear of water and while that might be more closely associated with larger bodies of water, whatever is happening at Bly Manor makes even the most innocent water of our sinks and showers a danger.

Considering much of the promotional material for this Haunting season has given attention to the dangers that lurk under the water (we see you promotional poster with your spooky people in the waves!) it absolutely makes sense that even in this full-length trailer, we are getting a hint at the fact that water is definitely not our friend at Bly Manor.

While I have already pointed out that an English countryside manor in the late 1980s is a perfect location for a haunting, the fact that this time we get to see a bit more of the horror that awaits us is exactly what we need to confirm that this is going to be another spooky experience. In fact, this season actually looks even more chilling than the first. And I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to learn exactly who is a ghost and who is actually alive in this house.

It may look like an elegant home with plenty of room for a family to thrive, but we already know how looks can be deceiving. And if there is one thing that this trailer proves, it is that Haunting of Bly Manor is ready to give us a few of those spine-tingling moments we crave in a good horror series.
