Scream 5 has added French-Tunisian star Sonia Ben Ammar, along with a handful of some of Hollywood’s most popular up and coming young stars, to the cast.

Scream 5 is slated to begin filming in North Carolina next month, and reports are coming in on just who will be joining franchise vets Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette. French-Tunisian actress/singer Sonia Ben Ammar is the latest addition to the movie’s cast, though her role is being kept under wraps for now. This will make Ammar’s first high-profile Hollywood job as an actress, essentially making it her American debut.

Additional casting announcements include rising stars of television like Jack Quaid (The Boys), Jenna Ortega (You), Dylan Minnette (13 Reasons Why), Melissa Barrera (Vida), and Mason Gooding (Love, Victor). There have also been rumors floating around that Marley Shelton will be reprising her role from Scream 4 as Deputy Judy Hicks, though this has yet to be confirmed. Fans are also still holding out for news that Hayden Panettiere’s Kirby will also return for the sequel, seeing as how we didn’t–technically–see her die at the end of Scream 4.

Although filming is set to begin next month in Wilmington (where much of the previous Scream franchise was filmed), the movie itself isn’t scheduled to be released until January of 2022. This is largely due to safety concerns in movie theaters caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Ready or Not filmmaking partners Matt Bertinelli-Olphin and Tyler Gillet will be directing the forthcoming film.

While details on the exact plot of the horror sequel haven’t been disclosed, the official log-line for the movie states, “A new installment of the ‘Scream’ horror franchise will follow a woman returning to her home town to try to find out who has been committing a series of vicious crimes.”

This is a very vague description, though it does almost align exactly with the plot of the previous installment. Here’s hoping that the movie will focus on a new final girl and give the much beleaguered Sidney Prescott a break.
