Hulu has confirmed that freshman teen drama Love, Victor will return for a second season.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for the first season of Love, Victor

Hulu has announced that the freshman teen drama Love, Victor, which is based on the film Love, Simon, will be returning for a second season. Love, Victor gained popularity over the summer, with its heartfelt and realistic portrayal of adolescent life, becoming a hit with fans of all ages, particularly millennials. Viewers of a certain age have experienced a kinship to 1994’s My So-Called Life, though now that Love, Victor has officially been picked up for a second season, we don’t have worry about any romantic series cliffhangers.

Love, Victor is the small-screen sequel to 2018’s Love, Simon, which starred Nick Robertson, Jennifer Garner, and Katherine Langford. Love, Victor centers on Victor Salazar (played by Michael Cimino), a Colombian-American teenager who just moved from Texas to Atlanta with his family and is attempting to discover his sexuality.

Victor attends the same high school Simon did in the original film, while becoming friends with Simon via social media. Robertson and Keiynan Lonsdale reprised their film roles in a special episode in the later part of the season. Additional cast members include Ana Ortiz, James Martinez, Rachel Hilson, and George Sear.

The first-season finale sees Victor finally coming to terms with his sexuality and admitting his romantic feelings for classmate Benji (Sear) while he is still in a relationship with Mia (Hilson). However, Mia saw Benji and Victor kissing, pretty much solidifying the end of their relationship. Victor’s parents, who had been having issues all season, decided to separate to work on their marriage. Oh yeah, and Victor finally came out as gay to his parents, whose reactions we didn’t see before the credits rolled.

Co-showrunner Brian Tanen stated that the writers plan to “push the envelope” with the next season, now that the show is officially being produced for a Hulu audience. The series was originally meant to be part of Disney+’s original content, but was relocated to Hulu during post-production, apparently because Disney was ultimately uncomfortable with the mature themes the show tackles, like drinking and sexual exploration. Tanen also teased that plans are in the works to bring back more characters from the film, outside of Robinson’s Simon and Lonsdale’s Bram.
