The Walking Dead panels at Comic-Con@Home started off with a bang, as the Fear the Walking Dead panel immediately revealed a release date for season six.

Comic-Con@Home started off The Walking Dead universe events with a panel on Fear the Walking Dead. Within seconds, fans had what they’ve been wanting since the pandemic began: a release date for season six! Fans can rejoice, as the first half of the season will begin airing October 11 at 9 p.m. EST.

And while it’s exciting that we’ll be getting new episodes this year, it’s important for Fear the Walking Dead fans to remember that this is not season six in its entirety. When the pandemic hit, the show had barely finished working on the first half of the season. The second half of season six is still very much up in the air, with no fixed date for when it could arrive.

Having a release date of October might catch some fans of the show off guard. It was originally said that Fear the Walking Dead would be airing in the summer, but this date falls within autumn, much later than many wanted. Either way, viewers are still grateful there is a date to look forward to at all.

During the panel, Scott Gimple also confirmed that there will be multiple time jumps within this season, as viewers see the story unfold in a more unique way than before. The season will have an anthology-series style format, exploring what the characters are going through within Virginia’s communities.

After such a turbulent finale episode for season five, paired with a bumpy “new normal” way of living for viewers, any date is welcome within the fandom. Having something to look forward to, even if it is a later date then expected, is a light that many needed.
