All three of The Walking Dead universe shows have been in limbo since everything paused, but AMC gave an update on the timeline for them.

Normally, The Walking Dead would be filming a new season in Georgia right now, but due to current health crisis, production and filming of season 11 is on hold. Earlier in the year, the season 10 finale of The Walking Dead was postponed because the post-production couldn’t be finished. The highly anticipated premiere of the new limited series spinoff The Walking Dead: World Beyond was pushed back as well.

This week, AMC COO Ed Carroll gave a vague update on when fans can expect to see the premiere of The Walking Dead: World Beyond and the first half of Fear the Walking Dead, which was shot before everything had to shut down. According to The Hollywood Reporter he said:

"“We moved The Walking Dead: World Beyond … back into [the] fourth quarter, so we are finishing post[-production] on that. That will be set to go. We have a new show, which is quite a bit anticipated, called Soulmates, … that will be airing in the second half of the year. And we anticipate having some episodes of Fear [the Walking Dead] season 6 in the second half of the year as well.”"

Speaking about The Walking Dead beginning filming for season 11 in Georgia he said, “We will monitor week to week, if not day to day.” Georgia’s early reopening of most businesses in the state has many film and TV production companies watching the number of cases of COVID-19 closely to try and gauge when it might be safe for them to return and start production again. Currently, cases of COVID-19 in Georgia are still growing daily.

What Does This Mean for Fans?

This news is not what fans wanted to hear. But, it does give a little bit more clarity to when The Walking Dead: World Beyond and the first half of Fear the Walking Dead season 6 might air. Don’t expect to see the premiere of The Walking Dead: World Beyond before October, and possibly not until as late as December. There could be a few episodes of Fear the Walking Dead season 6 in late summer through the fall, but at this point it’s looking like The Walking Dead season 11 will not start in October like it usually does — unless filming can begin soon, which doesn’t look likely.

While no one is excited about the possibility of a long hiatus without any new content from The Walking Dead universe, at least cast members are finding ways to stay engaged with fans and give them some new content. AMC launched Friday Night in With the Morgans, which airs on Friday nights and was recently extended for at least four more episodes. The show is a self-produced talk format show feature Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Hilarie Burton Morgan.

Karen David from Fear the Walking Dead recently launched her own social-media show, Tea With Karen, that has a similar format. And Fear the Walking Dead’s Colman Domingo just launched his own show, Bottomless Brunch at Colman’s which can be found on The Walking Dead’s official YouTube channel.
