What to watch on Netflix this week: The Willy Wonka-esque Crazy Delicious

ISTANBUL, TURKEY - MARCH 23: The Netflix App logo is seen on a television screen on March 23, 2018 in Istanbul, Turkey. The Government of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan passed a new law on March 22 extending the reach of the country's radio and TV censor to the internet. The new law will allow RTUK, the states media watchdog, to monitor online broadcasts and block content of social media sites and streaming services including Netflix and YouTube. Turkey already bans many websites including Wikipedia, which has been blocked for more than a year. The move came a day after private media company Dogan Media Company announced it would sell to pro-government conglomerate Demiroren Holding AS. The Dogan news group was the only remaining news outlet not to be under government control, the sale, which includes assets in CNN Turk and Hurriyet Newspaper completes the governments control of the Turkish media. Looking for an escape into fun? Check out Netflix’s new cooking competition Crazy Delicious for some Willy Wonka-esque confections and creations!

Hello, Netflix watchers! 2020 is still being 2020. We’re still in the midst of a pandemic, the country is grappling with centuries’ long systemic racism and how we can each combat it, and with these conversations happening all at once, it can get overwhelming at times.

While it is important to stay informed, it is also necessary to take a step back and let yourself experience joy and excitement, too.

So, if you’re looking to take a moment for yourself, might we suggest you use that moment to check out Netflix’s new cooking competition, Crazy Delicious?

Watch the trailer for Crazy Delicious here:

In what may as well be Willy Wonka’s forest, contestants turn the dial of their skills up to bonkers and compete to win the golden apple in Crazy Delicious. It’s the kind of cooking competition that is all about the sweetness.

If you’re looking for flames rising dangerously toward the ceiling, frustrated hysterics as something goes horribly wrong, and judges so intimidating that one look from them sets water to a boil, then this isn’t the show for you. But if you ever wanted to take a stroll among the trees where the dew drops taste like lemonade and the rocks are chocolate, then stretch out on your couch and follow along.

Each episode of Crazy Delicious is hosted by Jayde Adams and features three contestants poised to show the food gods — Heston Blumenthal, Niklas Ekstedt, and Carla Hall — how creative and inventive they are as chefs.

As one contestant states, “Food should make you happy, so I like to make happy food.” If that means drawing faces on a dish to bring some joy, then so be it. The judges on Crazy Delicious don’t want tried, true, and traditional concoctions. And why would they?

When the foliage is edible and so is the dirt, there’s no room for anything but innovation and the unsuspected. Contestants need to think outside of the box, and with dishes like watermelon ham and strawberry cheesecake buffalo wings, that’s what they plan to serve.

Anything is possible in this forest kitchen, as long as a chef is imaginative enough to bring their crazy delicious dish to life.
