The next Arrowverse crossover event won’t happen until 2021. But when it does arrive, fans will get to see Batwoman and Superman come together.

After the epic crossover event that was Crisis on Infinite Earths, it’s hard to imagine how The CW could possibly bring the members of the Arrowverse together in a more grand way. But it seems the network is taking the opposite approach to its next crossover, focusing on smaller-scale problems with a select few characters, as opposed to bringing every hero in its reservoir out to play once again.

Speaking with TVLine, CW chairman and CEO, Mark Pedowitz, revealed that the next Arrowverse crossover event will likely air during the first half of 2021, and that it will focus primarily on Batwoman and Superman & Lois, the latter of which debuts in January.

“It will be a smaller event than usual,” Pedowitz explained. “We’re only planning a two-hour event. We’re talking about doing Superman [& Lois] and Batwoman together, with a lot of characters coming [in] from our other shows.”

While it’s not the Batwoman and Supergirl crossover many hoped for after watching Crisis, this will bring Kate Kane into contact with another Kryptonian — and possibly provide some answers after that plot twist at the end of last week’s Batwoman episode.

Now that Alice has discovered she’ll need to use Kryptonite to destroy her sister, it makes sense that this struggle would lead both of them straight to Superman. How, exactly, he fits into this — or how Batwoman’s weakness to Kryptonite even works — remains to be seen, but with any luck, there will be some ties to Bruce Wayne involved.

We’re also crossing our fingers that Kara will make an apperance, however small, because her chemistry with Kate is off the charts.

Given that The CW’s Arrowverse shows won’t be returning for their usual fall seasons, and will all be coming back in January instead, this crossover also gives fans something more to look forward to. Sure, we have a while to wait before seeing our favorite DC heroes onscreen once more — but we’ll be getting new seasons and a crossover when they do finally return.
