WarnerMedia’s HBO Max has confirmed May 27 as its official launch date, listing a number of Max Originals that will be available from the get-go.

With stay-at-home and shelter-in-place orders in effect across the country, streaming services like Netflix have seen a boom over the past couple of months. That could be good news for WarnerMedia, whose streaming service, HBO Max, is headed our way this May. In fact, the company confirmed that HBO Max will arrive on May 27, unveiling numerous Max Originals that will be available from day one.

While Friends re-runs and a library of feature films are certainly enough incentive to consider HBO Max, it appears the platform is making a serious effort to produce a range of original content for its viewership.

“Our number one goal is having extraordinary content for everyone in the family, and the HBO Max programming mix we are so excited to unveil on May 27 will bear that out,” Robert Greenblatt, Chairman of Warner Media Entertainment and Direct-To-Consumer, explained.

So, which Max Originals are slated to arrive on the platform the day it launches?

Love Life

With Anna Kendrick’s name attached to it, Love Life is sure to attract the attention of HBO Max subscribers and those still on the fence about getting the streaming service. A rom-com television anthology exploring love from beginning to end, Love Life spices up the typical rom-com setup by following a new protagonist in each of its episodes — and thus, a new quest to find true love.

And while Anna Kendrick will star in the first episode, it’s worth noting the other impressive talent featured in the series, including  Zoë Chao, Peter Vack, Sasha Compere, and Lesley Manville.

On the Record

On the Record was a critically acclaimed hit at the Sundance Film Festival, and it’s arrival on HBO Max is likely to spur the same praise from viewers. A documentary from Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering, On the Record takes a deeper look at the sexual assault allegations against Russell Simmons.

The documentary does this by telling the story of Drew Dixon, a music executive who became one of the first women of color to publicly accuse Simmons of assault. A needed addition to the many stories that have come out following the #MeToo movement, On the Record is one of the more serious and important originals arriving on HBO Max when it launches — and that gives viewers even more of a reason to subscribe and watch it.

Craftopia

We all love a good baking reality series, but what about one that covers the increasingly popular hobby of crafting? Hosted by DIY YouTuber LaurDIY, Craftopia will show a group of kids competing in a crafting competition, with one of them taking home the grand prize of $5,000.

Does glitter truly fix everything? Viewers will need to tune into this HBO Max series when it launches to find out.

Legendary

If there’s anything to be learned from shows like Project Runway and Making the Cut, it’s that fashion-centric television series are all the rage nowadays. Legendary puts a twist on the typical fashion series, however, shifting its focus on the underground ballroom community. Teams on the show will compete by showing off their designs during balls, giving viewers a taste of elaborate events and elaborate fashion.

Looney Tunes Cartoons

What’s up, Doc? Oh, just a brand-new Looney Tunes series coming to HBO Max. Looney Toons Cartoons will offer up a modern take on the classic animated series, featuring 80 11-minute episodes following the characters we all know and love — from Bugs Bunny to Tweety Bird to Elmer Fudd.

This series is perfect for adults looking to indulge in a bit of nostalgia, or for kids that will potentially get to experience the Looney Tunes universe for the very first time.

The Not Too Late Show With Elmo

The Looney Tunes gang aren’t the only classic children’s show characters coming to HBO Max on launch day. Sesame Street‘s Elmo is headed to the platform as well, appearing on The Not Too Late Show With Elmo. The series is set up like your typical late-night talk show with one caveat: It can’t air too late because 7:30 is Elmo’s bedtime.

On his talk show, Elmo will speak with celebrities and other members of the Sesame Street cast — and if the trailer is anything to judge by, this looks like it’ll be a hilarious addition to the streaming service for kids and adults alike.
