On this week’s Project Runway, the designers might have thought they were at summer camp. Some of these tie dye fashions might missed the chic direction.

Project Runway saw the designers get a little giddy this week. Whether it was the lack of sleep or the fumes from all the dye, this week’s episode was a little unusual. Although the designers are often asked to capture trends, a few looks might not be flying off the store shelves. Are more designers starting to crumble as the competition nears the finale?

As this week’s episode opens, everyone is processing the Siriano Save that brought Brittany back to the runway. So far, both Brittany and Marquise are prepared to make the most of their second chances. In some cases, this competition is as much about the best competitor as it is the best fashion designer.

While there are always time constraints, this week’s challenge had everyone really feeling exhausted. The 24-hour challenge seemed to cause everyone to get a little silly. From the onesie party to the late dinner hour, it seemed that the lack of sleep might have made everyone a little loopy.

This week’s challenge is a slightly different twist to the make-your-own-textile challenge from previous seasons. Since the designers had to make their own tie dye, they needed to pay attention to the demo. It was quite curious that some of the designers didn’t take notes. Just like choosing the right fabric, understanding the premise of the challenge is key to success.

As seen in previous challenges, disasters in the work room often never recover. For a few designers, poor fabric choices and tie dye disasters only made things worst. Maybe that lack of sleep had everyone thinking those colorful patterns were swirling all over the place.

What started to look like a disaster actually turned into a blessing. Geoffrey rose to the occasion again. His very dark, military-influenced textile stood out on the runway. The olive drab, green dress had an easy elegance that set itself apart in a sea of brightly colored chaos.

More importantly, the design choices were smart. With the challenge focusing on chic, this look works on every woman. It would give anyone an air of confidence.

In a similar yet different vibe, Sergio stunned on the runway. His bright yellow, two-toned tie dye look was stunning. The little details and expert tailoring were beyond impressive.

Overall, it was obvious that Geoffrey and Sergio were the top designers. In the end, the judges gave Geoffrey the win. His look had that slight edge that no one was expecting. In a way, that look should give him a boost of confidence late in the competition.

While Brittany and Marquise were both safe, Nancy had a divided look. She had the most interesting tie dye fabric. The use of a pattern really made her stand out.

But, her design had some issues. Although the return of the pants wasn’t the problem, she needed more clarity on her top. Again, she has parts that are done well and other items that are a miss. Hopefully, she can put it all together soon, or it might be getting too late.

Unfortunately, the two bottom designers were Victoria and Delvin. Victoria’s look was a mess. Before talking about the tie dye, there was an even bigger question: Does anyone really want a denim diaper? The pants over the pants was beyond strange. Add to that aspect, some messy dye blotted on the jeans and the look was going down the wrong path.

The tie dye blouse looked like a summer camp cape. The flowing part in the back look as if someone had tied a towel to the model. This look was definitely a miss.

The question becomes, can Victoria succeed when she doesn’t make an asymmetrical, cut out dress? When she does a different look, she is often in the bottom.

Delvin had a big miss with his color story. While he didn’t understand the impact of dye on fabric, the colors themselves were a miss. Fuchsia and orange do not scream chic tie dye.

More importantly, he had fit issues. From bursting buttons to odd seam placement, the dress needed a makeover. Additionally, the judges felt that this look was dated. While the 60s might be making a comeback, no one ever wants to be labeled dated.

In the end, Delvin was eliminated from the competition. The lack of design and the poor taste levels made him the next to go.

As the designers gets pared down to the final four, who will make the finale? The competition cannot be predicted. Maybe someone will really push the boundaries in next week’s episode.

Next. Brittany Allen was humbled by the Siriano Save. dark
