Who could Owen Wilson play in Disney+’s Loki series?
A shocking addition to the cast of Disney+’s Loki series was recently announced, leaving fans to wonder who Owen Wilson will be playing in the new show.
Those eagerly awaiting the arrival of Disney+’s television series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe got a new piece of information about the streaming service’s upcoming Loki series — though it revealed little about the plot and was a surprising development to say the least.
On Friday, ComicBook.com reported that Owen Wilson of Zoolander fame would be joining the cast of the trickster’s upcoming show in a “major role,” though it wasn’t specified what character he would be playing. Little is known about the plot of Loki thus far, except that it will involve time travel to some extent, so it’s hard to guess what, exactly, Wilson will be up to in the series.
This is a far cry from Wilson’s usual comedic onscreen appearances, though Wilson has been involved with Disney before via his appearance in Cars 3. Still, diving into the MCU is a big move and we have to wonder whether his time there will be exclusive to Loki — or if we’ll see the actor pop up in future films as well. As of right now, he’s listed as being in six episodes in the Loki series on IMDb.
Is it possible Wilson could play a villain in the upcoming show? Again, this would be different from many of the roles we’ve seen him in before, but it would show fans a new side of the actor. It also wouldn’t be the first time an antagonist in a Thor installment veered more toward the comedic. Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster wasn’t the main villain of Thor 3, but he caused enough trouble with his over-the-top personality to be considered an antagonist. Could Wilson play a similar sort of role in Loki?
Despite the fact that many major news outlets, including Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, have followed ComicBook.com’s lead in reporting the news, it doesn’t seem that Wilson himself, Marvel, or Disney have confirmed the statement that he’ll be involved in the series. With everything being kept under wraps, it could be a while before fans get a concrete answer about the news. But that just gives us more time to speculate on how Wilson could fit into Loki’s world.
Tom Hiddleston will be returning as the God of Mischief for the series, which will be written and produced by Rick & Morty‘s Michael Waldron. As of now, there’s no official date set for the series’ release, though it’s expected to hit the streaming service sometime in 2021.
