Every day, music tells a story, and in the new single from Karima Francis, we get a moving look at homelessness in Los Angeles.

The beauty of music is the story that it tells. And every single day, we get songs that capture an emotion, an aspect of our lives, or even a problem that needs to be addressed. Thanks to Karima Francis of London, we now have a single and music video that turn the focus to homelessness, specifically in Los Angeles.

With the single “Shelf Life,” listeners get a moving vocal performance that is deep and haunting. Not only is the music organic in many ways, but the lyrics themselves are very contemplative as well.

What Francis delivers with this single is a look at the homelessness problem we face every day,  even though it is the music video itself that really hammers the story home. And yet, the lyrics sell the story, which is what we want from an excellent song with a message.

Check out the music video for Karima Francis’ “Shelf Life” here:

“Shelf Life” is a haunting song that feels both powerful and tender, while delivering an emotional story. There is a sense of melancholy to this piece that makes perfect sense when looking at the topic at hand.

More people should be giving attention to our homelessness problem, and yet it feels like, in many cases, the people on the streets are forgotten. However, it is clear that Karima Francis has not forgotten and doesn’t want anyone else to either.

If ever there was a song that makes you want to cry, it might just be “Shelf Life,” thanks to the heartbreaking look at the struggles the homeless deal with every day in Los Angeles. And the fact that L.A. is a place where celebrities are living right alongside those people who have nothing makes the video and lyrics even more stark.

There are some beautiful songs currently streaming, and what Karima Francis delivers with this new single is something that transcends any genre.
