Riverdale celebrated Thanksgiving amidst an ice storm in its fourth season, and while Luke Perry may be gone, he is certainly not forgotten.

This is the first Thanksgiving since Luke Perry tragically passed away in March 2019, and that also means that this is the first holiday without Fred Andrews on Riverdale. And while Perry and his character may be gone, they are definitely not forgotten.

For their Thanksgiving episode, Riverdale paid tribute to the character (and in essence the actor himself) in a number of ways. Not only was Fred mentioned a number of times by multiple characters, but we even got to see Archie and his mom visiting him in the cemetery.

While it may be hard to see Riverdale moving forward without Luke Perry, it is nice to see the series continuing to honor his memory. From a toast in his honor made by FP, Alice, Hermione, and Hiram to the gym that Archie is running being dedicated to his memory, it was beautiful to see Fred Andrews being remembered so completely in this episode, even with so many other storylines happening at once.

Not only did we have to watch Jughead and Betty dealing with two classmates seemingly out to get Jug, but we also had to watch Cheryl scaring off her relatives. And, of course, there was also all the Lodge family drama to contend with. It wouldn’t be Riverdale without weirdness and drama, and while we had that in spades, the fact that the show was able to honor their fallen family member with respect and in a way that made sense and fit with the story was truly special.

There were a lot of interesting moments on Riverdale‘s Thanksgiving episode, and we could talk about any one of them in detail with all kinds of theories and deep dives. But when it comes down to it, there was something touching about this episode simply because they refused to let the holiday pass without reminding us that they lost someone special this year.
