Why the cancellation of Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger is so disappointing

Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger managed two seasons before getting axed. But it’s heartbreaking to see it end after they built up so much with these characters

Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger is no more at Freeform, and that’s a sad fact.

Unfortunately, the news doesn’t come as that much of a shock. Ratings were down in its sophomore season, and with all of the Marvel TV changes that have happened in the last few months, none of us should be terribly surprised that his series, too, was a victim of cancellation.

Still, we’re allowed to say that we’re not mad, we’re just disappointed.

The first season of Cloak and Dagger was solid, but had its ups and downs. It wasn’t quite sure what it wanted to do with these two new characters, but found its footing by the time the finale came around.

The second season took large strides forward. It knew what it wanted to do and it did it well almost every time. We delved into voodoo and New Orleans culture and even had a fun tie-in to Agent Carter and Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD with the Loa/Darkforce dimension.

And while season 2 at least ended on a happy, open-ended note, we weren’t quite ready to say goodbye to this show or these characters. Watching Tandy and Tyrone explore the world outside of New Orleans and discover others with superpowers would have been an incredible journey to take.

Watching them come into their own and become even closer friends would have warmed our hearts.

There is always a glimmer of hope as we head into Phase Four of the MCU and whatever Disney+ will be known as. Eleven years into this grand experiment, it looks as though Marvel wants to bring the TV universe and the movie universe closer than ever.

It’s always possible that Tandy and Tyrone will show up in a Disney+ show like Hawkeye, focusing on an up and coming young hero. And we do still have one more chance to see them in their crossover episode with Marvel’s Runaways this coming December!
