NYCC 2019: 5 of the biggest things that happened on days three and four
Saturday and Sunday are the busiest days of New York Comic-Con, and the excitement on the show floor could only be matched with some equally as thrilling reveals.
New York Comic-Con has come to an end, but the excitement at the Jacob K. Javits Center was palpable over the past weekend. In fact, Saturday and Sunday are the busiest days of the convention — and the packed show floor and impressive lineup of panels and screenings only made the convention that much more exciting to immerse yourself in.
There were plenty of reveals and screenings during the first and second days of the convention, but the third day had surprises in store for Star Trek and The Walking Dead fans — along with some trailer drops for other series.
Here are 5 of the most exciting things that happened on the last two days of NYCC this year.
Star Trek: Picard got a new trailer and release date.
Star Trek fans have plenty to look forward to in the near future, and CBS All Access’ series Star Trek: Picard is at the very top of that list. The franchise’s newest series is one that’s gotten a lot of attention as of late, and now it finally has a release date: January 23.
The upcoming series also got a new trailer at the show, and fans were excited to see some familiar faces while watching. Picard’s story is shaping up to be a good one, with plenty of callbacks to other Star Trek series.
The Walking Dead was renewed, and a series regular is returning
At The Walking Dead panel on Saturday, attendees were in for a number of big announcements, For one, although the 10th season hasn’t aired yet, the show has been renewed for an 11th — and it looks like a series regular will be returning. That’s right, we’ll be seeing a lot more of Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie Greene on the show.
Unfortunately, if fans were looking for more details about the Rick Grimes movies that are currently in the works, they didn’t get that. Still, the news about the future of The Walking Dead is still a pretty big deal for the franchise — and, of course, NYCC also gave us a look at the spin-off series that’s on its way, even if we still don’t have a title.
Outlander got a trailer for season 5.
With Outlander season 5 approaching, there was plenty of discussion about what’s to come on the popular Starz series. But amidst all of the conversation, the fifth season trailer for the show dropped — and the teaser suggests that Claire’s character is going to be on her own psychological journey this season.
Jaime and Claire are also reunited, but that reunion doesn’t appear to solve all their problems. In fact, the teaser shows the characters faced with more than a few difficult decisions.
Charlie Cox showed up for the #SaveDaredevil party
The news that Netflix would be ousting the majority of its Marvel television series was not met with a kind reception from fans. Series like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, The Punisher, and Luke Cage have become increasingly popular over the years — and canceling many of them halfway through felt like a betrayal.
That’s why Daredevil fans took to NYCC this year and hosted a #SaveDaredevil party on a Manhattan rooftop on Saturday afternoon. But it seems that fans aren’t the only ones onboard to save the show. The show’s lead actor, Charlie Cox, actually showed up to join the festivities, as did The Punisher‘s Royce Johnson, Daredevil‘s Susan Varon, and Marvel executive Joe Quesada. As you can imagine, fans were more excited than ever about the new arrivals.
Riverdale dropped its season 4 trailer.
Fans were expecting some type of video presentation at the Riverdale panel on Sunday, but it was a nice treat when the series’ fourth season trailer dropped. We suppose it’s probably time, given that the new episodes are only a few days away — but still, it’s nice to have something to get excited about leading up to the newest season.
Judging by the new footage — along with the commentary from the cast and crew — we’re in for an emotional ride with season 4. But then, none of us watch Riverdale expecting not to feel all the feelings, right?
