Black Panther’s Shuri is getting her own middle grade book next year

Although Black Panther 2 won’t come out until 2022, we don’t have to wait that long to see Shuri again. She is officially getting her own novel! Here are the all the details we know.

As everyone knows, Shuri is the smartest and best character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and now she is finally getting the recognition she deserves! According to Entertainment Weekly, Nic Stone, the author of Dear Martin, Odd One Out, and Jackpot (which releases later this year), is coming out with a middle grade novel featuring the technologically savvy girl from Wakanda.

The book will launch a new partnership between Scholastic and Marvel to introduce Marvel superheroes to a younger audience, and it will be followed up by a series by Preet Chhibber called Avengers Assembly.

The book will follow Shuri as she tries, yet again, to save Wakanda. The Heart Shaped Herb that Black Panther gained his powers from — and that much of Wakanda relies upon — is not working as well as it once did, and it’s up to Shuri to figure out what happened to the plant and how she can save it and her home.

The last time we saw Shuri, she was fighting off Thanos and his army in Avengers: Endgame, but that was way too short of an appearance for any fan of the character. We need more of her, and what better way to learn about her story than in a book?

Don’t let the middle-grade label keep you away if you tend to read adult or YA books, either. I don’t read a lot of middle grade, and I could not be more excited for this release. With Nic Stone at the helm, It’s sure to be a story everyone will be able to connect with and enjoy.

And while we do have to wait until 2020 for this book, it’s way closer than the 2022 date for the next Black Panther movie. Shuri will be a fully grown adult by then! We need to know what happens in between that time.
