The Mandalorian

Probably the biggest reveal short of Ewan McGregor stepping out to announce the streaming service’s plans for an Obi-Wan Kenobi series was The Mandalorian trailer.

The series is described as a “space opera” that takes place five years after Return of the Jedi and follows a lone Mandalorian gunfighter (played by Game of Thrones’ Pedro Pascal) as he navigates the outer reaches of the galaxy. As series creator Jon Favreau explained during his appearance for the show, much of what happens in The Mandalorian is built out of the lawlessness that comes out after the fall of any government. The Mandalorian is there to retain some semblance of order. Did I mention it’s also a “space opera?”

Favreau equated the character to a gunman in a Western, and it’s certainly evident in the series trailer that was dropped. Pascal, rocking a helmet over his face, has all the swagger and authority of John Wayne in an old-school John Ford Western.

The trailer showed fleeting glimpses of Gina Carano’s Cara Dune and Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon, but they all look amazing. And you have to give a shoutout to Combat Carl himself, Carl Weathers. Ming-Na Wen and Taika Waititi are also part of the series’ cast, making this a cavalcade of riches for acting prowess. I’m a terrible Star Wars person, but I’m ready to watch this right now.
