Conflicting reports have Deadpool fans worried the next film won’t be rated R
With the Fox and Disney merger, we have all wondered about what is going to happen with Deadpool. And now it looks like the movies are maybe not going to be rated R…
So, Disney has been sending us a bit of a mixed message regarding Deadpool. Fans of the series were worried when Fox merged with Disney because Wade Wilson isn’t exactly the kind of hero we’re used to seeing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Kevin Feige has kind of implied that Deadpool will be fine, there are now reports that the hero will not have an R-rating in future films.
Now, if you know anything about the Deadpool movies, you know that this is a little concerning — mainly because Wade Wilson’s whole deal is his mouth and the things he says and, well, the sex and gore. So, to take away that rating? It sure will be interesting to see what a dialed-down Wade Wilson will even look like.
Oh wait, we already saw it in X-Men Origins, and it wasn’t great. Now though, David Leitch, the director of Deadpool 2, says that the movie doesn’t need an R-rating. And while we can all trust him and his vision for the character, it does seem a little questionable that Wade would fit so easily into the MCU rating system.
We have future hopes for Deadpool, Karl Urban even wants to be in a Deadpool movie, and a Deadpool cartoon may still be in our future, but all of that won’t matter if the character is changed to fit into the ideals held by the MCU. The reason so many love Wade Wilson is because he’s unapologetic, says what he wants, and is a little raunchy. So, it is definitely going to be interesting to see whether or not they actually follow through on keeping Wade Wilson the hero we all know and love.
