Swamp Thing series finale preview: A sad day in the swamp
Take a moment and prepare yourself because the Swamp Thing series finale is happening. We wanted at least five more seasons, but now “Loose Ends” is almost here.
It’s finally here. The best and worst week is finally here. We’re only days away from the Swamp Thing series finale. While we preemptively prepare a eulogy for this DC Universe series that was taken too soon, it’s difficult to believe that the series has executed so many new and classic comic arcs in such a short time. The swamp is teeming with even more stories, villains, and otherwise; however, the Swamp Thing finale is a critical episode.
Beyond the morbid title this week, “Loose Ends” is already sparking some fan theories and conflicting hopefulness among fans.
DC Universe’s promo for this week’s final episode seems very definite. Episode 10 is the series finale. However, executive producer for Swamp Thing, Mark Verheiden, is giving fans a sliver of hope.
Since the cancellation news first broke, every Swamp Thing fan, Abby Arcane fan, and hopeless romantic has been in denial. It’s tough to accept that such a riveting and award-nominated show could possibly be axed. Nonetheless, some vague news about a post-credit… something has us excited.
In contrast to the DC Universe’s promotional tweet, Verheiden references the finale as the “final episode of Swamp Thing 2019.” The inclusion of the year is very curious, and we’re probably more hopeful than we should be. But perhaps this should give us some slight hope that Swamp Thing will be uncancelled somehow. We know: It’s a reach, but let us have this.
Nonetheless, whatever is lurking in the post-credits is worth waking up an extra hour or two to watch the episode on Friday morning. While there are a lot of stray storylines to wrap up in just one episode, the Conclave, Woodrue, and Avery’s nonsense basically ensure that we’ll get one last action-filled scene.
In a series that pays homage to its horror and romance roots, we just hope the Swamp Thing finale will draw inspiration from Alan Moore once again.
Because despite all the tragedy and sorrowful moments, The Saga of The Swamp Thing still gave Abby and Swampy a happy ending. We can only wish for the same on the live-action series. However, we’d prefer a happy ending in the form of another five seasons and a Justice League Dark spinoff.
