The Good Place actors Ted Danson and D’Arcy Carden are heading into the final season of the show. Here’s what the journey was like for them.

Over the course of three seasons, The Good Place’s Michael and Janet have become more human than they ever could have imagined.

Michael, a demon architect, forever had his life changed when his “Good Place” human lab rats Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani and Jason turned his life upside down. The humans did the same to Janet (a Siri in the flesh), who got more than she bargained for when she fell in love with Jason.

For the legendary actors Ted Danson and D’Arcy Carden, who play Michael and Janet respectively, the journey is coming to an end. Culturess had the chance to talk to the two during a roundtable interview at San Diego Comic-Con, and they expressed how bittersweet it is that The Good Place is entering its fourth and final season.

“I mean, speaking for myself, I can’t quite describe how much I love this group of people,” Carden shared. “And we clicked real quick, real fast, real hard — the cast, but also the writers and also the crew. We really have very good days at work. And I will miss that time.”

“Everybody knows how lucky they are,” Danson said, sharing Carden’s sentiment. “That’s pretty cool, [going] to work and people want to be there and are great.”

The chemistry on set is evident when it comes to the final product on screen. No matter what scene it is, you can tell that there’s never a dull moment on set. Just take a look at the blooper reel (which you can see below), for example — or perhaps the behind-the-scenes clip where the group teaches Ted Danson to floss.

The actors also revealed what they loved about everything so far, and Carden couldn’t have been more excited to work with Ted Danson. (Who wouldn’t?)

“It’s a blast,” Carden said. “I mean, I lucked out because [in] my first TV show, my character gets to be best friends with Ted Danson — I mean, with Michael, which means D’Arcy gets to hang out with Ted Danson all the time, which is a dream come true. I’m so lucky and not a second has been lost on me.”

Of course, neither of them wanted to give away too much about their characters in the final season. But all in all, you can believe that good things are on the way for these loveable characters.

“I think they are two characters that have been helping, and they want the best for other people,” Carden began. “And me, D’Arcy, I just want the best for them. I want them to be happy and fulfilled.”

Ted Danson added: “Every character in here, the humans, gets to develop and grow. So it’s pretty amazing to watch ‘not a computer’ and a demon learn how to become more human. And that journey, you know, kind of highlights, I think, one of the themes of the show. You know, how do you become a decent human being? Even if you’re not human.”

With the ending of The Good Place coming soon, we certainly hope that the journeys for Michael and Janet will be wrapped up wonderfully, and Shawn and any other people from the Bad Place will leave them alone once and for all.

You can see if that happens when the final season of The Good Place premieres on NBC this fall.
