Batwoman’s Ruby Rose pulls out of Comic-Con appearance, but we understand why

Following the first day of San Diego Comic-Con, news broke that Batwoman’s Ruby Rose was pulling out of the convention — but it’s for a solid reason.

When it comes to introducing a new television series or movie based on a comic, there is no better place to promote it than San Diego Comic-Con. The fact that the convention is one of the biggest in the country certainly helps to cement it as the perfect place for a show like The CW’s Batwoman to build steam for itself.

And while going into the convention we were all expecting to see Batwoman star Ruby Rose there, it seems the actress had to pull out of her appearance. However, we totally understand where she is coming from with her reasoning.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Rose posted a video to Instagram explaining why she would not be attending SDCC. In the video, she apologized for not being there, but stated the decision was made in an effort to make the show’s first episode — which she described as “ambitious” — the best it can possibly be.

While it was clear that Ruby Rose was upset by the fact that she would not be able to attend the two panels she was supposed to speak on, it makes sense that the team behind Batwoman would want to take as much time as possible to get their show right. After all, we are talking about a series that ties directly into the Batman mythology, as well as the Arrowverse in many ways.

Batwoman has a lot to live up to, and that seems to be doubly true for Rose, who has already had to face backlash over the decision to cast her. Anybody who has watched the teasers for the upcoming series can see that a lot of thought and dedication has gone into bringing Batwoman’s story to life, and there is simply no way the cast and crew are going to want to deliver something lackluster to fans.

In her video, the actress makes it clear that, “It wasn’t until really now that we realized there wasn’t any other way to finish this episode, this ambitious episode that we’re doing, and create this amazing show that really is special.”

And we totally understand what she is saying, because it does take a lot of work to get something like this right. With so much riding on the show doing well and proving that fans want to see Batwoman/Kate Kane’s story brought to life, it feels like Ruby Rose is doing the right thing by skipping the convention and getting the necessary work done to make this show the best it can be.

We can’t wait to see what the cast and crew are able to do with Batwoman and her story. After all, this is not something we have truly seen on our screens before. And with how well the other DC TV series are doing, we think this one could be just as amazing.
