Six seasons and a movie! The Russo Brothers’ mysterious twitter post ignites fan speculation that Community could (finally) be getting a movie.

Four years after the final episode aired, it appears that the NBC cult classic Community may finally be getting its long awaited movie.

Maybe.

We’ll see.

Community, which starred Joel McHale, Donald Glover, Ken Jeong, and many more, aired for six years and garnered much praise for being a self-aware, smartly written sitcom that wasn’t afraid to go off the beaten path.

Created by Dan Harmon (of Rick and Morty fame) and executive produced by the Russo Brothers (yes, the same guys of Marvel fame), viewers everywhere were sad to see it go when the quirky comedy ended in 2015. But to die-hard Community fans, however, the cancellation was even more tragic than you might expect, because the show had failed to reach a meta goal that it had set for itself in terms of longevity.

Community was chock full of quotable lines, but perhaps one of the most famous was Abed (Danny Pudi) yelling about how long the show would live on: For “six seasons and a movie”! Though the line was uttered during an episode in season 2, as the show progressed, fans began to speculate that it wasn’t just a joke, and that Community would actually air for six season and then go on to become a movie.

These hopes were dashed in 2014, when NBC announced that Community would be cancelled after its fifth season – just one shy of Abed’s original goal. However, thanks to a 13 episode (albeit poorly received) sixth season on the online streaming service Yahoo! Screen, it seemed like the ultimate goal might still be attainable.

Sadly, after the sixth online-only season, the show came to its actual end, and fans (mostly) came to terms with the fact that the mythic Community movie would likely never actually be realized.

This all seems to have changed, however, when on July 12, the Russo Brothers twitter account posted this cryptic video:

It’s a 35-second soundbite from the season 1 episode “Spanish 101”, and given that the Russo Brothers have a panel in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con coming up soon, many fans immediately assumed Community could finally be getting the movie it predicted so many years ago.

The video was only one of a series of teasers for the duo’s impending Hall H panel, but to die- hard Community fans, it was more than enough to restore hope and spark chatter.
