Square Enix’s Avengers game adds one more hero you probably weren’t expecting

Square Enix released new footage for its game Marvel’s Avengers. Despite fans wanting one character in particular, they debuted another surprising hero instead.
Gaming fans got to see their first look at Marvel’s Avengers, the upcoming game from Square Enix, on Monday. Despite an all-star voice cast playing Iron Man, Black Widow, Captain America, Thor and the Hulk, fans weren’t pleased that one hero in particular was missing: Hawkeye.
Sadly, that’s not the hero Marvel’s Avengers revealed during its E3 Coliseum panel today. Following a Q&A with the game’s developers, they previewed a final clip for the game that showed just who else will be making their video game debut.
The new hero they were excited to reveal was none other than Hank Pym, aka, Ant-Man.
In the clip, a metal enemy appears out of a portal, and so does Pym with a large weapon in tow. On the other end, Tony Stark warns Hank not to fire his weapon. But of course, Pym uses the weapon, and the robot successfully shrinks down to a less-threatening size. (You can watch the clip here, though you will have to scroll about 3 hours and 20 minutes in to catch it at the end of the Avengers panel.)
As of now, without Ant-Man being part of the lineup in the first offical trailer, it’s not certain if Hank Pym will actually be a playable character or just someone you encounter during story mode. Hank appears in casual clothes in the clip — not his Ant-Man suit — so that may be an indicator that he’s just a character making a cameo.
Down the line, there will be room for more heroes to join the fight, and that certainly seems to include Hawkeye. Marvel Games VP and Creative Director Bill Rosemann told the audience, “We love Hawkeye! Stay tuned, True Believer!” As Rossmann said in a video for Marvel, the updates will cost absolutely nothing for players once they become available, so let’s just hope Clint Barton is the first character we get to see following the game’s release.
Marvel’s Avengers will be out across multiple platforms on May 15, 2020.
