Chris Hemsworth revealed he’s totally down for Thor to join the Guardians of the Galaxy. Here’s how we’d love for it to happen in the MCU.
Avengers: Endgame closed on a bittersweet moment for Thor. Sure, he may have given up the kingship to Asgard, but he gained a new set of friends through the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Now dubbed the”Asgardians of the Galaxy,” it seemed like Endgame was setting us up for Thor being their newest companion on their cosmic adventures. And while there’s been no official word about if this new pairing will last in the MCU, Chris Hemsworth himself certainly wouldn’t mind the team up happening.
Speaking to Cinemablend, Hemsworth was excited about the idea of Thor joining the Guardians, confirming: “I’ll work with any of those guys. Asgardians Of The Galaxy. That’s actually great.”
So, just how could Thor continue on with the Guardians of the Galaxy? We’ve got three scenarios we’d love to see go down in the MCU for the new team.
Thor helps the team in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Since filming for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 had been delayed following the firing of James Gunn, we wouldn’t mind if the script got a last-minute addition with Thor. Seeing as he’s already traveling with the Guardians at the end of Endgame, it would feel pretty natural to see him at the beginning of the next Guardians movie. Of course, Thor doesn’t have to take the spotlight away from the team in their movie, and him staying in the first few scenes would be just enough.
Perhaps he helps the team find a lead on Gamora, and then he leaves to take care of his own business. All we know is that we’d love to see more jealous banter between him and Star-Lord. (Maybe even with Thor being the real leader of the team for a bit!)
The Guardians appear in Thor 4
So far, no hero has gotten more than three solo movies. Iron Man died, and Captain America is in retirement, so a fourth sequel for them isn’t going to happen. But there’s still a chance that Thor can get one last movie, especially seeing as characters like Valkyrie and Korg could definitely use some more screentime.
Thus, while they’re at it, why not bring the Guardians in as well? If the Guardians aren’t all familiar with Valkyrie already, we’d love for Thor to introduce them to her. Then we could see Valkyrie, Gamora and Mantis create their own mini A-Force team, with Thor cheering them on from the sidelines (you know how much Thor adored the Valkyrie when he was young. This is the next best thing).
Thor appears in a Disney+ spinoff
Last year, there were rumors that a Rocket and Groot spinoff was pitched to Disney+. Those rumors haven’t come to fruition just yet, but anything’s possible with Disney+.
In Avengers: Infinity War, Thor shared the most screen time with Tree and Rabbit (we mean, Groot and Rocket), and building off of that chemistry in a mini-series would probably be the best scenario out of all of these. The series could be a mini-adventure with the trio somewhere out in space. We’d get a ton of laughs from the episode, and we’d hopefully even hear Thor speak Groot — since he learned it in school and all.
