Star Wars: 4 guesses for the third live-action series

Now that Star Wars is working on its third live-action series, it’s time to start speculating on which characters it could focus on.

While we wait for either the impending doom or excitement of the next Star Wars movie after The Rise of Skywalker in 2022, Disney will make sure we have plenty of content to pore over. As announced yesterday, there’s a third Star Wars series in the works for Disney+.

So far, we have Cassian Andor’s series and The Mandalorian, which tell us two important things. First, Disney+ is willing to shell out for stars like Diego Luna and Pedro Pascal, respectively. Second, there’s not one specific era that’s being focused on, since Mandalorian is after the fall of the Empire.

With those in mind, let’s get to the speculation.

Zay Versio and Inferno Squad

Iden Versio’s story has pretty effectively been told in games like Star Wars Battlefront II as well as the tie-in novel Inferno Squad. (Spoilers: She joins the New Republic and the Resistance.) However, her daughter, Zay Versio, only appears in DLC for the game and receives a mission at the end of it: find more help for the Resistance.

Since The Rise of Skywalker is coming out this December and features a gap between it and The Last Jedi in terms of the in-universe timeline, there’s certainly room for a show to come along next year or even in 2021 to start filling that in. Zay and what’s left of the Inferno Squad are a good starting point there.

Darth Plagueis

Yes, we know, he’s the subject of a tragedy and a meme, but Plagueis is no longer canon, meaning that Darth Sidious’ master could have a story to tell. Additionally, with Palpatine’s laugh plaguing The Rise of Skywalker (pun not intended), a journey to the past to expand upon Plagueis might be worth a miniseries.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

It’s the rumor that won’t die: Ewan McGregor wants to be Obi-Wan again. A few months ago, there was even a rumor circulating that moving Obi-Wan over to Disney+ was the plan. In other words, this may be where the smart money goes.

Jedi Investigators

However, Disney+ seems to be where Star Wars can really explore other genres, and canonically, some Jedi were basically specialists in investigation. Crime shows like Broadchurch or Dark have captured our attention, and a show like this would be an excellent way to show the Republic in its dying days — or even earlier, if Disney likes.
