Terry just wants to forget about the Lieutenant’s exam but everyone on this week’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine seems too engrossed in winning the Cinco de Mayo heist.
All Terry wants is to forget about his exam but it seems as if everyone forgot what their goals were on this week’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine. We thought we might not see a Halloween Heist this year because the season was pushed to a spring release but alas, Brooklyn Nine-Nine had our best interests at heart.
It’s to the point that many of us have ranked the Halloween Heist episodes because they are some of the best episodes of television out there. In the last few episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, everyone needed help. From Gina needing the crew last week to save her from a fan’s husband to Jake willingly being a Hitchcock for Captain Holt, the crew is learning how to be there for one another no matter what.
To be fair, the Nine-Nine has been through a lot recently. With a hacker and everything else happening, they needed a bit of fun. So a Cinco de Mayo heist to take Terry’s edge off seemed like the perfect solution. The problem is that it is a heist episode meaning that no one cared about anyone else, they all just wanted to win.
So, as we find out throughout the episode, Terry had already taken and passed the Lietneut’s exam. He was just using it as a front to finally win the Halloween Heist. It was so intricate that the reason the heist didn’t even happen on Halloween was that Terry faked a gas explosion so that everyone had to stop the game.
In the Cinco de Mayo heist though, no one is safe, not even Terry, and Jake continues to put him in situations that lead to his masterplan: Pretending to knock himself out and getting everyone to the ‘exam’, Terry reveals that it was all a big ploy just for him to finally take home the crown as the winner of the Halloween heist. To which everyone made fun of him because it is only a short time until the next heist but still, Terry got to win.
The Halloween Heist episodes are probably some of the best of the entire series because they showcase how much these characters love one another. Sure, they want to win and will clearly do anything to do so but in doing that, they are having fun as a group. They’re dedicated to their lives and their relationships even when there are high stakes. Those stakes include winning a cummerbund but still.
The Cinco de Mayo Heist wasn’t as legendary as the last Halloween one when Jake Peralta proposed to Amy but we still got to see our crew have fun with each other and, yet again, Cheddar became the star of the entire heist. Maybe Cheddar is the best detective the Nine-Nine has.
