Game of Thrones season 8 episode 5 photos: The prelude to combat

facebooktwitterreddit

There aren’t any photos of actual combat, but the photos from the fifth episode of Game of Thrones season 8 have some tension all the same.

Well, if you weren’t already concerned for Daenerys Targaryen, Game of Thrones fans, then you should be now. Although she’s only in one photo of this week’s pre-episode batch, that one photo tells a pretty serious story about where she is right now as a character.

Additionally, almost all of the shots at Dragonstone are lit in shades of blue and have a particularly somber air to them. That’s also not good.

We’ll start with the Dragon Queen herself, though, as seen below:

This is the worst Daenerys’ hair has looked since she was captured by the Dothraki and led to Vaes Dothrak. It’s a simple thing, but it’s clear: she’s not able to take care of her appearance right now, for whatever reason. We’re not sure what dress she’s wearing, but it could be the one from last week’s episode during the celebration scene.

Based on the angle of the shot and the outline of the person, we’d guess it’s Tyrion coming to talk to her, but that’s just a guess.

His looking awfully concerned in this image definitely lends to that impression.

Grey Worm is trying to look impassive, but he’s failing, especially with the side of his face that’s more in shadow here. That’s what makes it such a great shot.

We know Jon is supposed to be leading the ground forces to King’s Landing, but with Daenerys like this, it makes sense that he’d stop off at Dragonstone to regroup and replan.

Granted, he is not looking so great himself, although that’s some new armor for him that’s more in line with the Targaryen armors we’ve seen throughout the season. It seems like he’ll be leading the ground assault on King’s Landing.

Contrast this to the image from before “The Long Night” when it comes to the armies of Jon and Daenerys, as opposed to the Golden Company standing before the gates.

Speaking of the Golden Company, here’s Harry Strickland on his fancy horse and in his fancy armor.

Euron looks like he’s back on a ship, and if we had to guess, that’s still King’s Landing in the background. Presumably, there’s still a sea combat aspect to the battle for the capital, but it also means that there are splits in forces.

Cersei looking smug is nothing new, but it’s still interesting to see. Is she watching the battle from a safe vantage point inside the Red Keep?
