Brooklyn Nine-Nine review: Gina needs the Nine-Nine’s help again

For all us Gina fans, this week’s episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine was a beautiful return to the character. Even if things didn’t exactly go as planned for her.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine ushered in the return of our king last night, meaning that Chelsea Peretti revived her role as Gina Linetti and needed the help of the Nine-Nine. When she started to become famous through her YouTube channel, Gina began getting threatening letters that she didn’t take seriously. But in order for her to continue on with her show, she has to hire security and gets Terry and Jake to come protect her.

The problem is that they realize quickly that this is a very real threat and now just someone sending things online to her. But it’s not all about Gina’s protection either. With her success, she’s started to ignore all her friends from the Nine-Nine, including Jake. So when Jake discovers that she lied to him about canceling plans they had, he isn’t exactly happy with her and the two fight to the point where Jake doesn’t realize that Gina’s been stabbed.

Which goes back to Jake Peralta having a lot to figure out within himself. Sure, he’s been helping out other members of the Nine-Nine recently but he still hasn’t really been focused on his own needs. So when he finds out that Gina lied to him and just continues to ignore her old friends? He has the right to be mad.

It just sucks that in his anger, Gina has to get stabbed by the man who threatened her life. Eventually, they found out that a man was threatening Gina because she’d told his wife to leave him. Obviously, Gina ends up fine but it still puts everything into perspective for both Jake and Gina and their relationship.

They shouldn’t both forget one another and watching as the two start to talk about their relationship and how they still care for one another, was sweet. It also helps that they helped Terry reconnect with his old friend from college who he had stopped talking to.

From there, Boyle and Nikolaj had a moment with Holt and Amy and Rosa were trying to prove themselves to one another. You know, typical antics of the Nine-Nine. But the episode focused mainly on Gina because clearly, we’ve missed her since her departure.

Though it doesn’t mean a full return for Peretti to the show, we do know that we now have the chance to see Gina a bit more in the series. It’s never been confirmed that Gina would never come back and clearly, her return was something that many fans loved so hopefully, it means we’ll continue to get little glimpses of Gina once more.
