Disney villains are taking over Magic Kingdom park this Summer
By Megan DuBois
Summer just got better with the Disney villains taking over Magic Kingdom Park on select nights during Disney Villains After Dark.
Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World is usually filled with all things bright and magical. But when the sun sets this summer, villains will come out to play. As part of the Disney After Hours events at the parks, Disney villains will be taking over Magic Kingdom on select nights from June 6 to August 8, 2019.
What is Disney After Hours?
This special-ticket event offers guest the opportunity to explore and enjoy Magic Kingdom with a limited capacity, lower-than-normal wait times on attractions and special in-park experiences. Also included with the ticket is all-you-can-enjoy ice cream, popcorn, and bottled drinks. We’ll take four Mickey’s Premium Ice Cream Bars in that case! Guests attending Disney After Hours can enter Magic Kingdom starting at 7:00 pm, and can enjoy a few attractions and the fireworks before the event officially begins.
What to expect with Disney Villains After Hours:
Hades and Meg from Disney’s animated classic Hercules are the hosts of a new castle stage show, “Villains Unite the Night.” Other Disney characters to join the show include Jafar, The Queen, Dr. Facilier and Maleficent.
If you’ve been to Magic Kingdom during the day, you might have seen Disney’s Festival of Fantasy Parade featuring a massive Steampunk-style Maleficent dragon. During Disney Villains After Hour,s the Maleficent dragon will be strolling through the park, breathing fire and making one-of-a-kind moments for guests.
Pirates of the Caribbean and Space Mountain are both getting a villainous takeover.
Specialty villain foods and beverages will be offered and available for purchase, all of which have been inspired by The Queen, Cruella de Vil, Maleficent, Hades, Dr. Facilier and Emperor Zurg.
Guests are encouraged to dress up in costume, as long as they follow Disney’s in-park costume guidelines. Disney Villains After Hours would be a great way to show off your Disneybounding creativity too!
Why could Disney be focusing on villains?
Villains have always been a big draw at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, and guests are always wanting more villains merchandise, character meet-and-greets, and events. Disney knows its audience and definitely tries to deliver. In recent years Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party has had most nights sell out, leaving many guests with little access to the villains.
The new theme for Disney After Dark brings aspects of the Halloween party to guests, without having to take their kids out of school, or work around a busy schedule once Fall does start. Disney could also be capitalizing on the new villains series coming to the new streaming service Disney+. Either way, we are excited to see more villains represented at Walt Disney World!
Disney Villains After Hours cost $139 in advance and $144 on event night. Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club members are eligible for a discount. Tickets for Disney Villains After Hours goes on sale April 29.
Do you think this sounds like a fun night, or do you think Disney should only use villains around Halloween time? Let us know in the comments!
