Why is Chris Evans meeting with Democratic senators?

Chris Evans visited Capitol Hill before the State of the Union to meet with Democratic senators. He was reportedly there for work on a “project.”

It’s no secret to Chris Evans fans that he is involved in politics and very vocal about his opinions, especially about Donald Trump. Other than tweets about his dog, Dodger, Evans tweets about political issues more than anything else.

We definitely see a strong connection between Evans and the fictional hero he plays, Captain America, in that he is very patriotic and open to speaking up on issues he cares about.

While many people love Evans taking such an outspoken approach to politics, others think he should stay in his lane. Evans has responded to this idea in past interviews saying:

"I would not be able to look at myself in the mirror if I felt strongly about something and didn’t speak up. I think it’s about how you speak up. We’re allowed to disagree. If I state my case and people don’t want to go see my movies as a result, I’m okay with that."

That sounds like a very Captain America way of thinking to us!

Yesterday, Chris Evans did more than just tweet his thoughts and opinions about political issues, however. He visited Capitol Hill where he met with senators before the State of the Union address.

The MCU actor met with Democratic Senators Ed Markley from Massachusetts, Chris Coons from Delaware, and Maggie Hassan from New Hampshire. All three of the senators posted about the meetings on social media.

In a photo with Massachusetts’ Senator Markley, Evans celebrated the New England Patriots recent Super Bowl win by holding up a piece of paper that said, “Congrats Pats!”

Senator Coons shared a photo of the two joking about how he and Evans had discussed vibranium as well as the important work Evans is doing to get people engaged with politics. Evans himself responded to this photo saying that Coons, “knew his stuff” about the precious metal.

There isn’t a reason given as to exactly why Evans was at Capitol Hill. According to a reporter from the National Journal, Evans was there for a “project.” This is pretty vague and could possibly refer to some kind of political activism that Evans is doing beyond just meeting with senators for photo ops.

Or, Evans could be in the area for a filming project of some kind. The reporter also noted that Chris Evans did not stick around for the State of the Union, which isn’t surprising given Evans’ distaste for Donald Trump.

Chris Evans is likely used to being around politicians since his uncle, Mike Capuano, is a former Massachusetts representative. Senator Mike Capuano lost the primary in the state last year. In the past, Evans has attended events to support his uncle in his political endeavors.

While we aren’t sure why Evans was in D.C., we love seeing him meeting with senators and promoting political engagement!
