Kristen Bell and the cast of Frozen get together to tease the new sequel
By Mia Johnson
The cast of Frozen is back and have gotten together to tease the sequel. Now, if only we can get new promotional photos or a teaser trailer.
We’ve let Frozen go for over five years now, believe it or not. And the whispers and rumors about a Frozen 2 are finally coming to fruition.
While Disney hasn’t released much of anything about the movie set to come out later this year, at least the cast has our back. The crew gathered together to sparkle a little Frozen magic on the internet Tuesday — and it was seemingly appropriate timing, seeing as part of the United States is experiencing one frozen polar vortex. (We’re sure Elsa’s not responsible for this, but we’ll need to do some more investigating to be certain.)
In a photo on Instagram, Josh Gad (who voices Olaf), shared a picture of himself, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff, and Idina Menzel (who play Anna, Kristoff and Elsa, respectively) kissing a tiny, plush Sven the Reindeer. He teased the image with the caption “Soon enough…”
Oddly enough, as ABC News discovered, if you click on Gad’s picture to see who’s tagged, he tags Dwyane Johnson in the center of it all as Sven. In the first movie, Sven was voiced by legendary voice actor Frank Welker.
Granted, Sven isn’t a magical talking Disney animal, but he still makes sounds. More than likely, Disney would get Welker back to do more sounds for Sven in the sequel. So it’s possible Gad was just poking fun at Johnson, who’s tied up with a Disney movie of his own right now, Jungle Cruise.
Elsa herself, Idina Menzel, also shared a photo of the cast to her Instagram page, adding “Just a little morning Arendellian love,” to the photo’s caption.
So far, Disney’s been mum about developments for Frozen 2. We do know that Sterling K. Brown is the newest addition to the cast, but there’s no word of who he will be playing just yet.
The closest we have gotten to seeing something related to Frozen 2 so far came from a supposed merchandise leak. According to CBR, last December, a Russian calendar appeared featuring new looks at both Anna and Elsa. In the calendar image (which you can see on Instagram here), Anna and Elsa both look quite the same, though both sisters are sporting new outfits, and Anna has a brand new hairstyle.
Other than that, we may not be getting more from Frozen 2 for a while. Disney-Pixar’s Toy Story 4 is set to have a trailer appear during the Super Bowl this Sunday, and Avengers: Endgame (also under the Disney family) is likely to have a small TV spot during the game, too. But unfortunately, there’s no word on when we will get a Frozen 2 trailer.
Hopefully, Gad and Menzel’s Instagram photos mean something is coming sooner rather than later. And while we won’t see all of the Frozen gang on screen until Nov. 22, Kingdom Hearts III is now out and features the celebrity voices from Frozen in the game.
