Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s baby: Everything we know so far
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry shared their romantic wedding with the world, and the royal couple has been just as generous in sharing their baby joy.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have surpassed our dreams with their candid approach to sharing their royal lives with their fans.
Recently, Markle and Harry confirmed rumors that they are expecting their very first baby. We’ve got the scoop on everything we know thus far.
Meghan Markle’s due date revealed
Markle and Harry, royally known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, first shared their baby news in October.
“Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public,” stated the official pregnancy announcement.
Markle recently clarified that the baby’s due date is late April. Markle and Harry’s baby could potentially end up sharing a birthday with two other April birthday royal family members, Queen Elizabeth (born April 21) and Prince Louis (born April 23).
And in terms of astrological signs, this makes the duchess’ baby a Taurus.
The baby’s royal title and residence
Although the palace has not yet announced whether Markle and Harry are expecting a girl or a baby, speculation has begun about the title of the baby.
Markle reportedly agrees with Harry on the importance of giving their children as normal a childhood as possible. That may mean that the baby does not receive a royal title.
The precedent for royal parents opting out of titles for their children comes from Princess Anne. Her offspring, Zara and Peter Phillips, did not have royal titles.
As for where Markle and Harry will raise their baby, the soon-to-be-a-family-of-three will live at Frogmore Cottage. The home resides on the grounds of Windsor Castle.
Royal family baby talk: gender clues and quotes
Although there hasn’t been an official gender announcement, E! News pointed out that Markle, as well as members of the royal family, have indulged in baby talk.
Way back in December, Markle dropped a baby clue when she, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Prince Charles headed off to services at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham.
A royal fan, Kate Anvil, revealed to E! that she was bold enough to ask Meghan about her pregnancy.
“She said, ‘We are excited. We’re nearly there.’ I said, ‘Enjoy every moment, being a mother is a wonderful thing,'” shared Anvil.
Markle has also announced that she has no idea of the baby’s gender, desiring it to “be a surprise.”
But Prince Harry offered up his views on whether it’s a boy or girl. When a fan called to Harry that she hoped the baby would be a “girl,” he responded, “So do I!”
What will Meghan Markle name her baby?
Bookies are already taking bets on possible names. If it’s a girl, Diana (in honor of Prince Harry’s mother, Princess Diana) and Victoria (honoring Queen Victoria) rank high on the list. If it’s a boy, Alexander has become a winner.
Even Prince Charles offered some hints, saying:
"Incidentally, ladies and gentlemen, my son Harry tells me that during their recent tour of Australia, he and his wife were offered countless thoughtful suggestions for the naming of their forthcoming baby. Just between us, I suspect that Kylie and Shane may possibly make the shortlist."
Meghan Markle’s royal baby bump timeline
Like everything in the royal family, Meghan Markle’s baby bump has been carefully chronicled:
- In October, Markle and Harry traveled for the first time since they became Duke and Duchess to Sussex. Photographers were quick to try to capture photos of her not-yet-showing baby bump.
- Markle still wasn’t showing in November, when she looked gorgeous in a sequinned outfit at the London Palladium with Harry.
- December brought what felt like an early Christmas gift to royal pregnancy watchers: the sight of Markle’s baby bump.
- In January, the duchess proved she can stay calm no matter what when a thrilled fan said, “You are a fat lady!” Markle just laughed, joking “I’ll take that!”
