The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have something major to celebrate next spring — the birth of their first child.

If you’re waking up this morning and hearing a subtle cheer across the globe, it’s because Meghan Markle, the American celebrity turned British royalty, has a special announcement. Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, is expecting her first child with Prince Harry.

Kensington Palace shared a statement on Monday morning, hours after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex touched down in Australia for the start of their first royal tour as a married couple.

"Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019. Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public."

There have been recent pregnancy rumors surrounding Markle, including theories of how even wearing her hair differently was an attempt to distract people from a little baby bump. The newlywed Duchess’ style furthered pregnancy rumors when she wore a navy Givenchy coat, but loosely fastened, while attending Princess Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank on Friday.

Now in Sydney, the couple is set to start their 16-day tour through Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand. The Duchess of Sussex was spotted carrying purple binders, fueling rumors she was trying to disguise any physical signs of pregnancy. People reports that the royal couple sought medical advice about the Zika virus ahead of their tour, as they will be traveling through Fiji and Tonga, where the virus is common. The Zika virus can cause serious birth defects, including microcephaly.

The pregnancy news comes just five months after the two’s globally watched royal wedding in May, where the two said “I do” in front of family, friends and celebrity attendees at George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

We’re so happy for the royal couple and wish them the best on this exciting new journey in their marriage.
