A Marvel fan with terminal cancer turned to the internet for help, and now he may get the chance to see Avengers: Endgame early.

A Marvel fan who has been diagnosed with bone marrow failure and liver and mouth cancer has reached out to the internet for help. After learning about his terminal diagnosis, Reddit user alexander_q reached out on Reddit on January 5 with a post titled, “Dying Before April: My Endgame.”

In the post, he explains how he really wants to see Avengers: Endgame, but is unlikely to make it until the theatrical release on April 26. Alexander_qwrote, “I’m not a child or anyone with a particularly tragic story. Just a normal guy. I’m 33, lost my sister three years ago to the same rare genetic disease it turns out I have too. I’ll leave behind a devoted girlfriend and an adopted greyhound.”

Alexander shared through his post that he has Fanconi anemia, a rare disease that can cause leukemia, rumors, and bone marrow failure. In his post, he shared “I thought I’d make it to April at least, but my bone marrow is toast.”

Avengers of the internet assembled, proving that the Marvel fandom can truly come together to do amazing things for fellow fans in need. Thousands of people came to his support and have been posting to the Reddit accounts of Anthony and Joe Russo, trying to get Alexander_q an early screening of the film.

With the hashtag #Avengers4Alexander, this terminally ill fan has quickly grown a legion of fans ready to aid him.

And it turns out that the internet campaign has had an impact. Alexander_q shared to both Reddit and Twitter to say that Disney has been in contact with him. He said, “I cried when I read their email. It’s everything I hoped for and I owe it to all of you.”

Alexander_q has also asked to get a sneak peek of the final season of Game of Thrones. In response to people accusing him or being greedy or of faking cancer, he replied on January 7, “When you have cancer, you often have to shorten your list within the constraints of what you can actually achieve. My skill set includes sitting on the couch and lying in bed.”
